PASCALE BISHOP Assistant Dean of Career Development
“My plan is to make us as visible as possible starting on Day 1. With individual students assigned to a single
counselor for the duration of their legal education, the idea will be establishing a more proactive role for the
counselor to do follow-up and connect to the student in a more profound way.”
2010 GRADUATE EMPLOYMENT
As of Feb. 15, 2011, the “placement
success rate” for 2010 UF Law graduates
was 99 percent. Nationally, this figure was
94 percent, according to the National
Association for Law Placement. For UF
Law, the placement success rate consists
of 85.4 percentage points employed, 10.7
percentage points in graduate studies
and 2.6 percentage points not seeking
employment. Another 1 percentage point
was unemployed and 0.3 percentage
point whose status was unknown. Here is
a breakdown* of job types for those who
were employed:
• 87.5 percent full-time employment
requiring bar passage or a J.D., or where
a J.D. is directly relevant to the job
requirements;
• 7.9 percent part-time employment
requiring bar passage or a J.D., or where
a J.D. is directly relevant to the job
requirements;
• 3 percent in professional employment
where a J.D. is indirectly related or
unrelated to the job requirements;
• 1.2 percent in non-professional
employment
• 0.5 percent unknown job type
A large number of UF Law graduates are
accepted into full-time graduate programs
after earning their juris doctors. From
the Class of 2010, 10.7 percent of the
graduates pursued this option, while the
national average was only 2.9 percent.
Part of the reason for the high percentage
engaged in graduate work is the attraction
of UF Law’s LL.M. in Taxation program,
which is ranked No. 1 among public
universities.
*Due to rounding, the total of all categories
exceeds 100 percent
