Becoming a member
The College has over 4000 members,
representing around 94 percent of all general
practitioners in New Zealand.
To Join
Application forms may be obtained from the College
office, PO Box 10440, Wellington 6143. They should be
completed and sent to the Assessment Administrator
Lynn Frew at the College office. Faculties are notified of
applications.
Categories of Membership
Full Membership and Fellowship is attainable only by
examination and assessment. Associate membership
therefore carries no implication of academic or professional
achievement or status.
Fellow (FRNZCGP)
Fellowship of the College is attained by completing the
two-stage General Practice Education Programme, passing
Primex (the primary membership exam) at the end
of Stage 1, and the Fellowship Assessment in Stage 2.
Fellows have full voting rights and have the privilege of
the floor at general meetings. They may also hold any
office within the College. Fellows are entitled to use the
designation FRNZCGP.
Member (MRNZCGP)
The College awards Membership after successful completion
of Primex at the end of GPEP1 or an equivalent
programme. A Member who is of good standing is
entitled to the privilege of the floor at general meetings,
may vote and may hold office except where the office
requires that it be filled by a Fellow. Members are entitled
to use the designation MRNZCGP.
Associate
Most Associates of the College are engaged in general
practice; however, doctors who are practising within
a College-recognised special interest area of primary
care are also entitled to Associate membership.
Associates may take a full part in College affairs, except
that they may not vote at the Annual General Meeting
of the College.
Affiliate
Affiliate status may be granted to any individual who has
special links with general practice and desires to become
affiliated with the College. It may also be granted to
organisations that have special links with general practice.
Affiliates may not vote or hold office.
All RNZCGP resources, including the GP Pulse and the Journal of Primary Health Care (JPHC), are produced using
paper sourced only from sustainable and legally harvested forests (FSC Certified). GP Pulse and the JPHC are mailed
in compostable film wrap.
