High Pressure Mercury Lamps
Heraeus manufactures low and high pressure mercury
vapour lamps used for applications such as photochemical
processing, fluorimetry, mercury analysers, medical and
environmental equipment, and fixed wavelength detectors.
HPK 125W – Features
Heraeus high pressure lamp type HPK for use in scientific
instrumentation and other applications requiring high
stability UV radiation combined with an accurate position
for the arc.
At a power consumption of 125 Watt the lamp provides
maximum energy at 365nm with substantial radiation
at 435, 313, 254 and 405nm. In addition there is a
continuum from 200 to 600 nm peaking at 260nm with
approximately 20% of the maximum energy measured in
the line spectrum.

Lamp Mounting
The lamp should ideally be mounted with the base down
and a maximum inclination from the vertical of ± 30°.
The lamp can be mounted in a BA15d connector. Due
to the high level of UV radiation extreme care should be
taken in following the local health and safety precautions
for operators working in the presence of ultra violet light.
Power Supply
The HPK mercury lamp is operated with the Heraeus
Ballast C440.

St-Series - Features
Heraeus mercury lamps of the St-Series are stabilized high
pressure lamps developed for analytical applications. The
emission lines have narrow bands, virtually monochromatic
spectrum at constant, well reproducible wavelengths.
Stable Output
Various capabilities have been developed to improve the
light stability:
electrode stabilized high pressure lamp operated with a
DC voltage
a specific design of anode and cathode make sure that
the discharge arc does not move during operation. Therewith
it will be achieved that the geometrical axis of the arc
remains in the same position (St 75).
An outer protection tube helps to minimize the outer
thermal influences onto the discharge. (St 46, St 49/1..)
All measures lead to a very low noise – in the order of
0.1 %. The most favourable values of drift and noise are
achieved when only the middle part of the light arc is
used as the light source.

These lamps should be mounted with the base down and an
inclination from the vertical of less than ± 20°. Lamps in DC
operation has to be operated with the anode at the bottom.

Low Pressure Mercury Lamps
NK-Series - Features
Heraeus mercury lamps of the NK-Series are low pressure,
cold cathode UV lamps developed for applications in
analytical instruments. They mainly emit the monochromatic
mercury resonance line 254nm.
Heraeus NK lamps have been optimized for high radiance
of the 254nm line obtained by having an emitting light
part that is shorter resp. designed as a capillary compared
to conventional UV lamps. This feature is particular
needed for light sources in optical instruments such like
photometer.
The discharge tube is made of high quality fused silica.
NK lamps are also available with a special quartz jacket
that eliminates 185nm radiation for ozone-free operation.
For low pressure mercury UV lamps basically the emitted
radiation intensity mainly depends on the temperature of
the mercury and therefore strongly from the abient temperature.
The maximum intensity is reached when the
bulb has a temperature of approximately 40°C.

HG-2 Lamp – Features
Heraeus has developed a compact low pressure , low
voltage Mercury vapour lamp type HG2, principally for
use in scientific instrumentation.
This lamp has a highly stable output predominantly at
the 253.7nm Mercury line. When use with the Heraus
C430 power supply the line output is much higher than,
and the stability comparable to, that of a Deuterium
lamp. Other lines, which total 20% of the output, are at
313nm, 365nm, 404nm and 435nm.
The HG2 has a strike voltage requirement of just 21V
and a typical power requirement of 2.7 Watt, making this
lamp especially suitable for use in portable instruments.
Lamp Mounting
It is advisible that the lamp should be mounted with
the base and leads uppermost. Any clamp around the
lamp envelope should be at the base end of the lamp.
The clamp should be of low thermal capacity and poor
thermal conduction. If the mount is such that it cools the
lamp significantly Mercury can be condensed in this region
adversely affecting the performance of the lamp. The
lamp, which is temperature sensitive, must be protected
from draughts if optimum stability is to be achieved.

Heraeus manufactures the TW6W black light blue
fluorescent lamp that emits ultraviolet radiation in the
300-400 nm range.
Applications
The spectral characteristics of the lamp allows the
excitation of luminescence which can reveal fluorescence
and phosphorescence of stamps, dark room paints, bank
notes, papers and in the geological investigation of stones
and rocks.
Lamp Mounting
The lamp is fitted with an E27 screw base and can be
operated in any orientation.
Power Supply
The ability to run the lamp directly from mains voltage
enables the product to be used in applications where
space is a premium.

Germicidal Lamp
Heraeus manufactures the TUV 6WE germicidal lamp, a
low pressure mercury vapoure device emitting radiation
primarily at 254nm.
Applications
The primary use of the TUV6WE lamp is for sterilization
of small compartments where the compact size and direct
mains operation are of particular advantage.
Lamp Mounting
The lamp is fitted with an E27 screw base and can be
operated in any orientation.
Power Supply
The TUV 6WE lamp operates on 220V mains voltage and
therefore no power supply or ballast is required.
