Sports franchises are defined by the decade. The Dallas Cowboys of the 1990s. The Los Angeles
Lakers and Boston Celtics of the 1980s. The New York Yankees in just about every decade. But
what about the decade ahead? It belongs to the child. “The Decade of the Child: Healthy Children
2020 campaign” continued in 2011 and The Center for Children’s Health was formed. The center was
created to provide infrastructure and help sustain the Community-wide Children’s Health Assessment
& Planning Survey (CCHAPS) and the initiatives that were created using its data. The Center for
Children’s Health staff will continue to analyze CCHAPS data and find ways to connect the information
to the medical community, our community partners and ultimately, the general public.
Through CCHAPS, Cook Children’s executives and board members identified and committed to
beating seven opponents who stand in the way of the “Healthy Children 2020” campaign. With this
focus and the partnerships with new and existing coalitions formed in Denton, Hood, Johnson, Parker,
Tarrant and Wise counties, Cook Children’s can tackle these issues and The Center for Children’s
Health provides the framework to win these important battles.
