100,000 multiple-gang socket outlets were handed out<br />
to buyers of brown line domestic appliances at Worten,<br />
stores in order to reduce stand-by energy consumption.<br />
• ECO site – This website offers a virtual eco-efficiency<br />
service that publicises all ongoing action to promote<br />
energy efficiency. It also receives applications for<br />
specific programmes, offers an ECO Simulator and<br />
includes an ideas competition, Efficient Ideas, which had<br />
194 participants and 71,000 visitors.<br />

Energy Bus – This theme bus travelled around the country<br />
in 2007 and 2008 and offered its visitors an interactive<br />
experience, useful advice and technical information. It went<br />
to schools, municipalities, events, beaches and other<br />
public places in 57 cities and received 38,000 in two years,<br />
including teachers, pupils, families and the general public.<br />

Bright Ideas – This ideas competition for university<br />
students gave prizes to projects for energy efficiency<br />
hardware or software.<br />

• Correction of the power factor at 737 facilities;<br />

The environment belongs to us all – This is a programme<br />
to raise the awareness of 5th and 6th grade pupils of the<br />
problems of climate change and the issue of energy<br />
efficiency and encourage the adoption of measures<br />
in the school community and the children’s homes.<br />
The programme covered around 700 schools,<br />
more than 300,000 pupils and 40,000 teachers.<br />
The partners in the programme include the Ministry<br />
of Education, the Directorate-General of Energy<br />
and Geology, the European Commission and UNESCO.<br />
• Installation of 670 electronic speed variators and of<br />
electronic ballasts and efficient light bulbs in 32,000<br />
locations;<br />
• Audits of energy efficiency in driving force in seven<br />
sectors of activity;<br />
• Distribution of 30,000 energy-saving light bulbs in the<br />
trade and service sectors;<br />
• Six seminars on energy efficiency at companies for<br />
