St Anne’s Carers Break Service
This service provides carers of people with mental
health issues a short break of up to four hours per
session. The service uses trained support workers
who offer social and emotional support to the cared
for person to use social or recreational facilities,
allowing the carer some time for themselves.

Companions in Kirklees
This is a social and activity group for people who
are experiencing mental health problems. People
can refer themselves to the project and the group
meets every Wednesday from 10am to 12noon.
The group also organises activities at other times.

Direct payments
A direct payment is an amount of money that a
person can receive, instead of receiving a social
care service from Kirklees Council. People who
have mental health problems can use direct
payments to choose and buy the support they
need. Contact via Gateway to care. There are
specialist workers who can support you to get a
direct payment.
Mental Health Carer Support Service
by Making Space
The service is accessible to all carers of a person aged 18 to 64
experiencing mental ill health. The service supports, develops
and provides participatory opportunities for carers and aims to
improve their own well-being through the provision of a variety
of carer support groups, forums, peer groups and networks and
promotes the self-management of such groups.

Shared Lives
Shared Lives is a Kirklees
Council Adult Service that
supports people who need
a bit of help to keep their
independence. It offers a range
of support options, including
short breaks that give carers
a break from their caring role.
The scheme works by matching
the person needing support with
a Shared Lives carer recruited
from the local area. For contact
