St Anne’s Carers Break Service<br />
This service provides carers of people with mental<br />
health issues a short break of up to four hours per<br />
session. The service uses trained support workers<br />
who offer social and emotional support to the cared<br />
for person to use social or recreational facilities,<br />
allowing the carer some time for themselves.<br />

Companions in <strong>Kirklees</strong><br />
This is a social and activity group for people who<br />
are experiencing mental health problems. People<br />
can refer themselves to the project and the group<br />
meets every Wednesday from 10am to 12noon.<br />
The group also organises activities at other times.<br />

Direct payments<br />
A direct payment is an amount of money that a<br />
person can receive, instead of receiving a social<br />
care service from <strong>Kirklees</strong> Council. People who<br />
have mental health problems can use direct<br />
payments to choose and buy the support they<br />
need. Contact via Gateway to care. There are<br />
specialist workers who can support you to get a<br />
direct payment.<br />
Mental Health Carer Support Service<br />
by Making Space<br />
The service is accessible to all carers of a person aged 18 to 64<br />
experiencing mental ill health. The service supports, develops<br />
and provides participatory opportunities for carers and aims to<br />
improve their own well-being through the provision of a variety<br />
of carer support groups, forums, peer groups and networks and<br />
promotes the self-management of such groups.<br />

Shared Lives<br />
Shared Lives is a <strong>Kirklees</strong><br />
Council Adult Service that<br />
supports people who need<br />
a bit of help to keep their<br />
independence. It offers a range<br />
of support options, including<br />
short breaks that give carers<br />
a break from their caring role.<br />
The scheme works by matching<br />
the person needing support with<br />
a Shared Lives carer recruited<br />
