Eleventh Annual
An Elite Angus Event
Thursday, January 17, 2013
5 p.m.…“On the Hill”

Dear Angus Friends and Fellow Cattlemen:
Welcome to the Eleventh Annual “Denim and Diamonds” Sale and our fourth consecutive year “On the Hill” in
Denver. This unique event is the result of the collective efforts of forward thinking Angus seedstock producers.
Members of the Denim and Diamonds Group have again worked together toward the common goal of assembling
an offering of elite Angus genetics that combine performance with excellent phenotype to become competitors at
any level in our industry. The genetics and EPDs represented on both sides of these pedigrees are second to none,
as is the visual quality of the live offering.
Phenotypically, the 2013 sale offering is especially strong, and quality is present throughout. As the name
suggests, “Denim and Diamonds” is a unique blend of two segments of the Angus industry. The 2013 Denim and
Diamonds Sale combines the influence of the breed’s most valuable and proven performance families with the
deepest and most elite show prospects and herd sires in the country. The embryo matings and heifer pregnancy
feature cutting-edge genetics that are sibs to some of the most popular champions and herd sires in the industry.
These herd sire candidates, show and donor prospects and bred heifers are second to none in the breed. The
focus of the sale is on quality, and you will find that, like a diamond, each lot is distinctive in its own way.
I encourage each of you to evaluate your own situation and your breeding goals, and on Thursday, January 17,
please join us at 2:00 p.m. following the Junior Angus Show in Expo Hall 1 to view the cattle and enjoy food and
refreshments, and then at 5:00 p.m. in the National Western Beef Palace Auction Arena to take advantage of the
knowledge and cutting-edge efforts of these breeders and their programs. Whether you are seeking your next
herd sire, donor dam or your next show ring champion, you will find it among this exceptional offering.
If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Sale Manager
Selling 1/3 interest in this outstanding son of the now-deceased Triple Crown winner
Dameron First Class. First Degree combines the flawless phenotype we have come
to expect from First Class progeny with an impressive numerical profile that exceeds
breed average EPDs for WW, YW, RADG, YH, Milk, CW, $W and $F. First Degree is sure
to be among the top contenders at this year’s National Western Stock Show.
If you have been searching for a viable alternative to First Class, whose semen is nearly
impossible to obtain, look no further. Maternal sisters to this powerful herd sire prospect
have sold through Fawcett’s club calf pasture sales for $17,000 and $6,750. First Degree
is going to play a big role in the breeding programs at Broken Arrow USA and at Bush
and Sons. They feel that this promising young sire truly bridges the gap between show
ring and performance genetics and is poised to make his mark on the Angus breed.
First Degree should work great on Bismarck, Brilliance and Lookout daughters.
• Selling 1/3 interest only.
Selling 1/2 interest in this powerful female that is the product of two Denver Champions—Dameron
First Class and Greens Princess 1012. Many breeders who have seen her
believe that Princess 5401 may be the closest in kind to her famous dam. Rarely will you find
a female with this kind of muscle mass, rib and bone that maintains the level of femininity that
Princess 5401 possesses.
5401’s dam, Greens Princess 1012, sold in the 2004 Bases Loaded Sale in Denver for
$200,000 for half interest and was named ROV Dam of the Year (Embryo Transplant) for that
same season. 1012 was the 2003 National Western Stock Show Grand Champion Angus Female,
the 2003 Western National Angus Futurity Champion Cow/Calf and the 2003 NAILE Reserve
Champion Cow/Calf. With several progeny among the top sellers in Express Ranches
sales, Princess 1012 has rapidly become one of the top income generating females for the nation’s
largest seedstock producer, and we feel that Princess 5401 holds that same potential.
Here is an opportunity to acquire offspring from one of the more unique Angus females to hit the tanbark
impress the older she gets. Missie 70Y packs extra power, bone and dimension into a sound, attractive
package. Her sire, Duff Hobart, has one of the more impressive sire groups that we have seen all fall in
Angus, SimAngus and club calf herds. This is your opportunity to create the next breed changer within your
Western Winter Heifer Calf Champion who went on to be a many-time junior show champion as a junior
Danekas as the $22,000 top-selling female of the 1999 sale at Weaver Angus Farm and began her show
career as the Junior Heifer Calf Champion of the National Angus Show at the 1999 American Royal, going
Don’t miss! this exciting opportunity to purchase genetics from the elite Angus donor J&J Queen
414, who has been proclaimed by many as “Northern Improvement’s greatest daughter.” This donor
dam is proven to generate unparalleled “look,” quality, structural soundness and power. As a result
of a flush purchased by Walter Cattle Company and Steve Gilbert in the May 2007 J&J Sale, 414
is the dam of the 2010 Reserve National Champion Percentage Simmental Heifer, WLTR Lydia, and
the 2010 National Western Stock Show Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Simmental Bull, WLTR
Renegade, who was also named Grand Champion Percentage Bull at the 2010 American Royal.
Until their dispersion in May 2010, 414 served as the cornerstone donor for J&J Cattle Company in
Oklahoma. The Queen Family accounted for more than $68,000 of the sale gross in the May 2010
J&J Dispersion and included J&J Queen 9064, sold for $11,250, and J&J Queen 9044, sold for
$11,500 to Fred Schultz of Oklahoma, along with J&J Queen 613, sold for $10,400 to KB Cattle Co.
of Texas. During her tenure as a lead donor for J&J and Price Farms, Queen 414 sold over 30 embryos
to average over $840 each and allowed Price Farms to recover over $21,000 of their initial
investment within the first six months of owning her; she now has their investment way in the black
from embryo sales alone.
Embryos out of this prolific donor sold in the 2010 Denim and Diamonds Sale, where five embryos
sold for $700 each to Fred Schultz, and five embryos by BC Lookout brought $1,050 each to Circle
M Farms of Texas. In the 2011 Oklahoma Angus Gathering, 20 embryos by Lookout, Macho,
Dream On and Meyer 734 totaled $19,500 to average $975. In the 2011 Price Farms Sale, 15 embryos
from 414 sold for an average of $1,050. In the 2012 Denim and Diamonds Sale in Denver,
18 embryos by Final Product, 3C Macho and Meyer 734 sold for $18,900 to average $1,050. Also,
her embryos by Macho sold in the Branson Production Sale for $1,200, and in the 2012 Oklahoma
Angus Gathering to Circle M for $1,100, and Fred Schultz acquired half interest in 414 through a
private treaty sale. Recent full sibs to these embryos include the Reserve Grand Champion Percentage
Bull at the 2012 Simmental Breeder’s Sweepstakes, Shultz Black Onyx 12Y, who was also
named Grand Champion Percentage Bull at the 2012 Tulsa State Fair, and two heifer calves that
sold in the Bushy Park Farms sale for $8,200 and $7,900. Queen 414 is made for those who enjoy
This heifer has everything a breeder could ask for. She is rocket fronted, huge footed, “yak”
haired, perfect legged and exceptional in her rib shape. You would much rather own this one
than show against her!
And let’s not forget how good this female reads on paper. She has “cow” bred into her from
the top to the bottom side of her pedigree. Some say that most show heifers don’t make the
best cows, but this heifer will make every last one of you a believer otherwise. Whether you
are in the market of raising bulls, replacements or those sought-after show heifers, this one
has the look, the pedigree and the numbers to do it all.
Jake Cunningham said this about Lot 16, “I can honestly say she is quite possibly the best
show heifer/donor prospect I have had the opportunity to work on to date. We have had a lot
of good ones, but this one takes the cake. I am extremely excited about what the future holds
This show and donor prospect is a full sister to the popular Genex sire BC Eagle Eye 110-7,
who was among the most popular bulls in the yards during the 2009 National Western Stock
Show. This BC Lookout son drew a lot of attention for his correctness of build, powerful look
and moderate frame—qualities which he transmits to his progeny in the form of rugged
made bull calves and easy keeping, fault free daughters.
Here is an exciting opportunity to own a direct daughter of the $40,000-valued Conley Angus
and R&L Angus donor, BC Pure Pride D 110. In the 2010 R&L and Dorrell Joint Production
Sale, this heifer was selected as the top selling heifer pregnancy by Finley Brothers, and a full
sib bull pregnancy sold for $5,500 to Pembrook Cattle Company and R&R Angus. This heifer
calf stems from a long line of outstanding producers, starting with her Pathfinder Dam, BC
Pure Pride D 110, who is a maternal sister to the popular Genex sire BC Matrix 4132, who,
along with the remainder of the Pure Pride family, is known for boosting performance and
adding rib shape and depth along with unparalleled keeping ability and maternal strength. In
the second generation, the Pathfinder Dam CAF Pure Pride EXT 99 is an excellent example of
longevity and efficiency, as she served in the donor program at Conley’s until 14 years of age
and posted progeny ratios of BW 11@97, WW 11@107 and YW 9@108.
This impressive February prospect is the result of a split embryo that resulted in twin heifers.
Her dam, Empress 5179, was selected to join the donor herd at Pollard Farms as the $11,000
top selling two year old in Oklahoma State University’s 2007 Cowboy Classic. In the 1990s, the
famous grandam of 5179, DF Empress 6079, gained national recognition as a result of producing
several sons which would become grand champions in the show ring. 6079 was the
Angus Roll of Victory Embryo Transplant Dam of the Year in 1994. Her sons include OSU Precision,
Grand Champion Bull at the All-American Angus Breeders’ Futurity and Reserve Champion
at the North American in 1993; OSU Ultra, Reserve Champion Angus Bull at Denver in
1994 before being named Grand Champion at the National Western in 1995; and OSU Panama,
Grand Champion Bull at the 1996 All-American Angus Breeders’ Futurity and Tulsa State Fair;
and the Grand Champion Bull at the 1997 Western National Futurity in Reno, Nevada. Empress
was the first female to ever produce all of the "Best Six Head" at the North American, in 1993,
and all three bulls in the Champion "Pen of Three" at the 1994 National Western Angus Show.
In 1997, OSU exhibited the Champion Pen of Three Angus Bulls at the National Western, which
included one direct son of 6079 and one grandson. The lead bull in the 2009 Reserve Champion
Pen of Three Bulls at the National Western, OSU Currency 8173, also descends from this
famous matron. To this day, some of the most productive, highest income producing females
These are full sib embryos to BCII Cami 569, the donor dam of the Lot 30 pregnancy who was
ROV Junior Heifer Calf of the year and Third Overall ROV Show Heifer of the Year during the
2009–2010 show season. TFR Cami has become a household name in the Angus breed. Her
heifers continue to dominate in the show ring and are turning into awesome cows. Her embryos
and progeny are hard to come by. We seldom let anything go because this cow has been
such an intricate part of our program.
Cami’s embryos topped the Embryos on Snow Sale at $2,500 per embryo two years ago, going
to Texas. Her heifer calves have been named, not limited to, Spring Heifer calf Champion at
the NAILE, Late Spring Heifer calf Champion at the NWSS, Reserve Grand Champion Heifer
NWSS Jr. Show, Calf Champion Dixie National, Champion Angus and Fourth Overall Purdue AGR
IN, for a $25,000 valuation, while her first ET calf topped the “Time to Shine Volume II” to
Jim Craig. Another heifer sold to Katelyn McCoy of Oregon for a $20,000 valuation.
The dam of this mating, Juanada 8868, is phenotypically awesome! This female has as much
rib as any two year as we have ever seen. She stems from the same cow family that produced
OCC Anchor. Her dam is the famous OCC Juanada 710K. 8868 combines the body, capacity
and phenotype that we want our cattle to have. A-Cross Ranch from Oklahoma bought the
pick of a flush in 2011 for $4,500. These eggs would be bred similar to the $30,000 Aker Juanada
7100 at A-Cross. A full sister to 8868 resides at Coleman Angus and has been a top producing
cow. Full sib embryos to this lot have sold for as much as $1,000 per egg.
