The Diospi Suyana hospital is a lot
of work for anybody who is any way involved.
And if there is a power outage or no water
on top of all that, things can get downright
uncomfortable. Our staff members in
Peru are also at greater risk to life and limb,

to say nothing of the financial sacrifice the
missionaries have made....so why on earth
do we still have 41 long-term workers on
site? Quite simple – they just want to serve
God and their neighbour – and they do it
with joy.

us the best result so far in 2011.

is also ready
to go
operational
soon. We
rejoice that
it will soon
literally be light in the lives of many patients
and wish our colleagues in the eye
clinic clear vision for what needs to be
done.
The sun shone bright in a deep blue sky as
Dr. John walked into Roche company headquarters
in Basle on March 21 last year. Talks
with a member of the board had an amazing
outcome. The Roche group donated
3 items of lab equipment worth 60,000 €.
Diospi Suyana would like to thank the Swiss

Fates and Dispositions
Dutchman John Lentink is qualified to conduct
ultrasonic scans. His wife Viola works as a
specialist in the lab. During a recent scan John
discovered a serious heart defect in a patient
that only heart
surgery could
rectify. How
ever, heart
surgery is not
carried out
at Diosp Su-
yana. Then

bered a cardiologist from Lima, who had
been very moved by a tour of our hospital.
When John called him about the patient,
the doctor in the capital made the necessary
arrangements for the heart operation.

away from a hospital in Cusco because he
did not have enough money for treatment.

miserable standards of hygiene. The Diospi Suyana
Christmas baby had things a bit easier. He
was born at 3:28 p m on December 25th. Place:

For weeks, we and many, many friends had
been praying for an anesthetist to join us in
January. - Over Christmas I called 27 anesthetists
but unfortunately not one of them could
come to Peru at such short notice. On January
3, Dr. Haßfeld announced: “After January 9
we won´t have an anesthetist!“
It was just getting dark on the evening of
January 10 as Dr. Karaguntla, an American,
arrived at the Diospi Suyana hospital. He will
head up anesthetics
