present, the <strong>University</strong> Act stipulates that<br />

management deals with the SRC and not<br />

parliament. So, if you want management<br />

to deal with parliament, there will have<br />

to be amendments to the <strong>University</strong> Act<br />

which have to go through the national<br />

Parliament.”<br />

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor enlightened<br />

the SRC leadership about plans to<br />

strengthen e-learning at the university, for<br />

“Senior students do not need to go through<br />

the same registration process as new<br />

students”, the VC said to the delight <strong>of</strong> the<br />

SRC members.<br />

The <strong>University</strong> he said, has requested the<br />

Chinese government to assist the Science<br />

Faculty with two IT pr<strong>of</strong>essors.<br />

He further remarked that the <strong>University</strong><br />

was working hard to see to it that all<br />

lecturing staff have computers. Hangula<br />

expressed optimism that with government<br />

and donor support, this problem will be<br />

brought to rest.<br />

The Vice Chancellor stressed the importance <strong>of</strong> multiculturalism,<br />

relating his own experience as an African student<br />

at German and French universities.<br />

“There, you get all the different cultures <strong>of</strong> the world -<br />

Chinese, European, Muslims, Jews and many others.<br />

You appreciate that in the sense that you cannot visit<br />

every single country, these cultures come to you.<br />

It was the first time I came to know that someone from another<br />

culture would die for me”, he continued.
