The Rotorua District<br />
Council provides and<br />
maintains a range of open<br />
spaces, gardens, parks,<br />
amenities and facilities<br />
that are appropriate to the<br />
needs and enjoyment<br />
of the community whilst<br />
ensuring the beautification<br />
of the district and<br />
protection of the<br />
environment.<br />
The area of Council<br />
reserve land in the district<br />
is approximately 800<br />
hectares. <strong>Reserves</strong> are<br />
managed according to<br />
use, demand and type of<br />
reserve. Management<br />
plans are developed to<br />
show Council’s policy and<br />
future proposals for each<br />
reserve or reserve group.<br />
There are approximately<br />
110 urban reserves which<br />
are utilised by residents<br />
and visitors to Rotorua.<br />
The majority of reserves in and around<br />
Rotorua are managed by Rotorua District<br />
Council’s <strong>Parks</strong> and Recreation Department.<br />
Council are responsible for maintenance<br />
of these areas, including mowing, trees,<br />
fencing, signs, playgrounds, toilets,<br />
etc. Council also does field renovation<br />
work, putting up and dismantling of goal<br />
posts for various sporting codes, marking<br />
sports fields, field hireage and any other<br />
associated work required to ensure that the<br />
reserves and sports fields are kept in their<br />
best condition.<br />
Sports fields<br />
• Dogs are not permitted on<br />
any sports fields.<br />
• Bookings – any group can<br />
book the facilities on sports<br />
fields if the governing body<br />
and/or affiliated sports<br />
clubs do not have a prior<br />
booking. Contact the <strong>Parks</strong><br />
& Recreation Department<br />
on 07-3484199 for further<br />
information.<br />
Playgrounds<br />
• Dogs are not permitted on<br />
playgrounds.<br />
<strong>Reserves</strong><br />
• Gas BBQ’s are provided free<br />
of charge. Please ensure<br />
you clean these after you<br />
use them and remove any<br />
rubbish.<br />
Dogs<br />
• <strong>Reserves</strong> that are appropriate for dogs have been identified<br />
in the list of reserves. Dogs must be kept on a leash unless<br />
otherwise specified.<br />
• For all enquiries on dog by-laws please contact the Animal<br />
Control Division of Rotorua District Council on 07-3484199.<br />
Public Toilets<br />
• Public toilets are noted on the enclosed maps and are<br />
available throughout the District.<br />
