Place Value Dice Game
Number-Grid Game
Purpose:
The objectives are to:
practice adding 10 and 20 to any number;
become familiar with place-value patterns.
Materials:
You will need a number grid game-board for each player (see page two).
You need a small place marker for each player (i.e., a penny or dime).
You need one die and a colored pencil/crayon for each player.
How to Play:
1) Players put their markers at 0 on number grid. Players shade the 0
square on the number grid to show that this is their starting point.
2) Players take turns rolling die. Each player will:
Roll the die
Use the below table to see how any spaces to move their marker.
Move marker that many spaces on the number grid.
Shade the new square where they’ve landed on the number grid.
Continue playing. The winner is the first player to land on 110
with an exact roll.
Roll
Spaces 1 or 10 2 or 20 3 4 5 6
Extend:
Start at 110 and roll down to zero to practice subtraction.
This game is adapted from Everyday Mathematics (2007).
