For many years now there has been a very strong partnership between
St John Ambulance and the Scout Associaon of Australia,
Queensland Branch. This partnership has not only been through
the running of first aid courses but through training in general and
through the provision of first aiders at a number of our major
events. There are a number of people who are members of or give
support to both organisaons.
During the aermath of the January Floods, St John Ambulance
made office facilies available to the Associaon for our Training
Department and indeed supported that Department in a number
of ways.
I learned recently that St John has submied a grant applicaon
following the January floods to once again support the Scout Associaon
through the provision of first aid kits for Formaons who
were affected during the flood. I was even more pleased recently
to be advised that this grant applicaon had been successful.
Just recently the State Superintendent of St John, Darryl Clare,
OAM visited the Branch Headquarters and presented to me one of
the first aid kits obtained through the grant funds. Some of these
first aid kits have already
been dispatched and the
balance of the first aids
kits will be dispatched in
the near future. Once
again we are appreciave
of the efforts of St Johns
Ambulance in supporng
our organisaon and sincerely
thank them for
their efforts.
As you will be aware from my previous arcles, October is the
month during which charter/recharter interviews will be held. I
know a number of Region Commissioners and District Commissioners
have already made arrangements to hold the charter interview
and indeed some of them have already commenced.

The following Thursday in Cairns was the official presentaon of
awards and I understand that some footage of the presentaon at
the Agoonoree and the acvies being conducted at Agoonoree
was shown at that presentaon and exceponally well received by
those present.
It is most probably fing that this award was presented at the last
Agoonoree which Michele Johnson will be Camp Chief. I congratulate
Michele on her efforts over the past 13 years during which she
has aended Agoonoree and for the last six years during which she
has been Camp Chief. I know that she has placed Agoonoree on a
firm foong for Melita Goff to take over as Camp Chief for the
2012 Agoonoree.

Applicaons are open for new appointments to the Scouts Australia
Naonal Youth Council for the period 2012 – 2015. Applicaons
will close mid‐November. The applicaon form is available on the
Scouts Australia website and also on the Queensland Branch website

All applicaons should be forwarded to the Chief Commissioner’s
Office, Scouts Queensland, PO Box 520, TOOWONG QLD 4066 for
Branch approval and on forwarding to the Naonal office.

VICE AWARDS
The Chief Commissioner presented Region Commissioner Jenny
Staddon OAM with a 40 Year Long Service award and Region Commissioner
Ernie Bunt with a 20 Year Long Service award at the Region
Commissioners Conference in Brisbane September 2011.”
You will also be aware from my previous arcles that the criteria
which are set within chartering are nothing more than what we
should expect from any Formaon within the Queensland Branch.
Chartering is not a device to make the game of Scoung more difficult
but more parcularly a device through which mechanisms are
put in place to ensure that young people get the best possible
Scoung that we can offer to them and that the adults in Scoung
are appropriately looked aer and acknowledged for their efforts.
During this year’s Agoonoree we had a visit from the Minister for
Disability Services, Mental Health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander Partnerships, the Honourable Curs Pi who spent a couple
of hours at the camp and indeed parcipated in some of the
acvies that our members and guests were involved in. At a special
morning tea I was pleased to accept from the Minister a Ministerial
Disabilies Week award in recognion of the tremendous
