The Congregation of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ began in Paris,
France, on February 17, 1836, under the leadership of Bogdan Jański. After the death of the
founder on July 2, 1840, his disciples under the direction of Peter Semenenko and Jerome
Kajsiewicz, the co-founders of the Congregation, continued to develop his ideas and to live
in community. On Easter Sunday, March 27, 1842, along with five other clerics, they
professed their first religious vows in the Catacombs of St. Sebastian in Rome. The first Rule
was written during the Lenten season of 1842 and became the basis for community life and
personal sanctification. They were inspired to dedicate themselves to the Risen Savior and to
call themselves the "Brothers of the Resurrection". They were now dead to sin and alive with
the Risen Christ in a new life dedicated to truth and charity.
“Receive the Gospel of Christ whose herald you have become.
Believe what you read,
teach what you believe,
and practice what you preach.”
On Saturday December 19, 2009 Br. Ed Howe, C.R. from the U.S.A. Province was ordained to the
transitional diaconate. Since professing perpetual vows back in 1991, has served and worked in a number
of apostolates over the years. He worked both at Weber High School and Gordon Tech High School as a
Social Worker and coach. He also worked at St. Hedwig Parish and at a local outreach and neighborhood
program near the parish. For a number of years Ed also worked for the Archdiocese of Chicago in there
Communications Department. During his time at the Archdiocese he received an award from the National
Association of Religious Brothers for his outstanding work. Just prior to returning to the seminary to
complete course work for priesthood ordination, Ed served as the President of Gordon Tech High School in
Chicago.
This spring and summer will be filled with ordinations both in Poland and the United States. Please
remember all these men and all of our men in formation in your prayers. May Our Lady of Mentorella
watch over them and may the Risen Lord continue to inspire them.

Fr. Tadeusz Nosal, C.R., our man in the Holy Land
For the past 20 years, Fr. Tadeusz Nosal,
C.R. has been working and living in
Jerusalem. For a number of years he was
the rector of the 3 rd Station of the Cross on
the via Dolorosa in Jerusalem. Here Fr.
Nosal would greet the thousands of pilgrims
that would come to the Holy Land and pray
at the traditional Stations of the Cross.
Although Fr. Nosal no longer lives at nor is
rector of the 3 rd Station, he does make it a
point to check in on occasion to see how
things are being taken care of in the small
chapel.
Nowadays, Fr. Nosal lives at the “Nowy Dom
Polski,” a hospice run by the Sisters of St.
Elizabeth. Here Fr. Nosal serves as chaplain
to the Sisters of St. Elizabeth, he also serves
as Spiritual Director and C-confessor for the
Sisters of Divine Mercy living and working at
the 2 nd Station, and serves as a Holy Land
guide for groups that lodge at the Nowy Dom
Polski. Fr. Nosal’s knowledge of the Holy
Land, from a biblical, spiritual, and an
archeological standpoint are unmatched.
Amongst guides he is widely known and
respected throughout the Holy Land. Above
is a picture of Fr. Nosal sharing some
historical perspectives while leading a group
in Capharnum. Pictured on the left is Fr. Nosal and Fr. Bartczyszyn at St. Peter in Galicantu
on Mt. Zion. This is a fifth century shrine that commemorates Peter’s denial of Jesus.
Beneath the church are a series of carved-out chambers from the Second Temple period.
Since Catholic tradition positions the palace of Caiaphas on this very site, it is believed that
Jesus may have been imprisoned in one of these very same underground crypts.

Constitutions
“Liturgical prayer, which is
offered to God in union with Christ and
in his name, is given the primary place
in our life of prayer because it is in this
prayer especially that we offer the
Father perfect praise and also that we
experience our oneness with all the
people of God.
(Paragraph 56 CR Constitutions)
“The Eucharist must be the central
act of our daily life because it is here,
through our participation in Christ's paschal mystery by dying and rising with him that we encounter
the deepest meaning of the Resurrection. In the Eucharist we also experience reconciliation with our
brothers and sisters and unity of heart and soul as we, together with Christ, offer ourselves to the
Father. It is in the Eucharist that Christ, our spiritual food, enables us to strengthen our baptismal and
religious commitments. A natural outcome of our participation in the Eucharist is our devotion to
Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.”
(Paragraph 57 CR Constitutions)
“A frequent encounter with the Risen Christ in the sacrament of reconciliation forms an
essential part of our liturgical prayer because it is here that we acknowledge our complete
dependence upon him and receive the power to die
to sin and to become conformed to him. 1 This
sacrament also effects reconciliation between
ourselves and the church.”
(Paragraph 58CR Constitutions)
We hold the Liturgy of Hours in special
esteem because in it Christ and his church pour out
unending praise to the Father and intercede for the
salvation of the whole world.
(Paragraph 76 CR Constitutions)

Austria and Germany
This past November and December, Fr.
Raszeja, and Fr. Buda travelled to
Germany and Austria to begin the General
Visitation of the Polish Province. It was
not easy to leave the sunny and mild
temperature of Rome for the cold and snow
of Germany and Austria. However, despite
the cold temperatures, Fr. Raszeja and Fr.
Buda found the hospitality and care of our
brothers to be exactly what was needed to
feel comfortable and at home .
“All priests have as their primary duty the
proclamation of Jesus Christ, the incarnate
Word of God, and the communication of his
saving grace in the sacraments. Gathered
and called by the Word, the Church is the
sign and instrument of the communion that
God
creates with all people, and every priest is
called to build up this communion, in Christ
and with Christ. Such is the lofty dignity
and beauty of the mission of the priest,
which responds in a special way to the
challenge raised by the Apostle Paul: "The
Scripture says, 'No one who believes in him will be put to shame ... everyone who calls on the name
of the Lord will be saved.' Responding adequately to this challenge amid today's cultural shifts, to
which young people are especially sensitive, necessarily involves using new communications
technologies.
The world of digital communication, with its almost limitless expressive capacity, makes us
appreciate all the more Saint Paul's exclamation: "Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel" (1 Cor
9:16) The increased availability of the new technologies demands greater responsibility on the part
of those called to proclaim the Word, but it also requires them to become more focused, efficient and
compelling in their efforts.
Priests stand at the threshold of a new era: as new technologies create deeper forms of
relationship across greater distances, they are called to respond pastorally by putting the media ever
more effectively at the service of the Word. The spread of multimedia communications and its rich
"menu of options" might make us think it sufficient simply to be present on the Web, or to see it
only as a space to be filled. Yet priests can rightly be expected to be present in the world of digital
communications as faithful witnesses to the Gospel, exercising their proper role as leaders of
communities which increasingly express themselves with the different "voices" provided by the
digital marketplace. Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest
generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites) which,
alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue,
evangelization and catechesis.
Using new communication technologies, priests can introduce people to the life of the Church
and help our contemporaries to discover the face of Christ. They will best achieve this aim if they
learn, from the time of their formation, how to use these technologies in a
competent and appropriate way, shaped by sound theological insights and reflecting a strong priestly
spirituality grounded in constant dialogue with the Lord. Yet priests present in the world of digital
communications should be less notable for their media savvy than for their priestly heart, their
closeness to Christ.
No door can or should be closed to those who, in the name of the risen Christ, are committed
to drawing near to others. To priests in particular the new media offer ever new and
Page 7 of 11
far-reaching pastoral possibilities, encouraging them to embody the universality of the Church's
mission, to build a vast and real fellowship, and to testify in today's world to the new life which
comes from hearing the Gospel of Jesus, the eternal Son who came among us for our salvation. At
the same time, priests must always bear in mind that the ultimate fruitfulness of their ministry comes
from Christ himself, encountered and listened to in prayer; proclaimed in preaching and lived
witness; and known, loved and celebrated in the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist and
Reconciliation.
To my dear brother priests, then, I renew the invitation to make astute use of the unique
possibilities offered by modern communications. May the Lord make all of you enthusiastic heralds
of the Gospel in the new "agorà" which the current media are opening up.”
Year of the Priest Meditations
The following quotes are from different homilies or talks given by Pope Benedict XVI:
1. Friend of Jesus
“Being a priest means becoming an even closer friend of Jesus Christ with the whole of our
existence. “ (Homily at Chrism Mass, Holy Thursday April 13, 2006)
2. Need
“The world needs God – not just any god but the God of Jesus Christ, the God who made
himself flesh and blood, who loved us to the point of dying for us, who rose and created
within himself room for man. This God must live in us and we in him. This is our priestly
call: only in this way can our vocation as priest bear fruit.”
(Homily at Chrism Mass, Holy Thursday April 13, 2006)
3. In the name of Jesus
“The priest receives his “name” his very identity, from Christ. Everything he does is done in
his name. His „I‟ becomes totally relative to the „I‟ of Jesus.”
(Homily at the Mass for the ordination of priests May 3,2009)
4. In the light of God
“First of all, in our hearts we [priests] must live the relationship with Christ and, through
him, with the Father; only then can we truly understand people, only in the light of God can
the depths of man be understood. Then those who are listening to us realize that we are not
speaking of ourselves or of some thing, but of the true Shepherd.”
(Homily at the Mass for the ordination of priests May 7, 2006)
5. To choose life
“This is our priestly vocation: to choose life ourselves and to help others to choose life… to
help people make the true choice for life, to renew their relationship with God as the
relationship which gives us life and shows us the way to life. And thus, to love Christ anew,
who from being the most unknown Being whom we did not reach and who remained
enigmatic, became a known God, a God with a human face, a God who is love.”
(Meeting with clergy of the Diocese of Rome March 2, 2006)

General Curia
General visitation of the Polish Province is still underway. Several countries have been visited,
but only a fraction of the entire Province is completed. Hopefully the remainder of the
Province will be completed by mid to late May.
Planning for the 2011 General Chapter has begun. Representatives from the provinces will be
invited to attend upcoming planning meetings.
Br. Krzystof Majchrzak, C.R. of the Polish Province, has written a letter to Fr. General asking
to be released from Perpetual Vows. Fr. General and the General Curia have voted in favor of
releasing Br. Krzysztof from vows.
Fr. Restivo, Provincial of the O.K. Province has asked that the Assumption House be
suppressed and be joined to the St. Cecilia House. The General Curia voted in favor of the
request put forth by Fr. Restivo.
Fr. Stanisław Lasota, C.R. and Fr. Jacek Junak, C.R., have petitioned to transfer from the
Polish Province into the U.S.A. Province. After consultation with the General Curia, both
requests have been approved by the Superior General.
Fr. Spiewak, Provincial of the Polish Province, has written to Fr. General and the General
Council asking for permission to complete some need renovation of our property in Mszana
Gorna. The cost of the needed renovation is over and above the $25,000.00 allowed by our
Handbook on Temporal Goods. The vote by the General and Council was in favor of
spending the amount needed.
A review of the financial situation of the Roman house as well as the Generalate took place.
House expenses have dropped considerably in the last two years despite the fact that the cost
of utilities continue to grow. Because of the financial situation of the provinces and legal
issues, Fraternal Sharing from the provinces has become a critical issue for the Generalate. All
three provinces have either not sent their portion of Fraternal Sharing or have sent only a
small portion for the year 2009. Additionally, money for the missions in Tanzania, Brazil, for
the Beatification process, and for our commitment to Bulgaria have not been received. The
Generalate has needed to use the principal from its investments to cover money that has not
been received.
Our men in Bulgaria have asked for approximately 2000.00 € in additional funding from the
Generalate to establish a temporary library in Malko Tirnovo.
We are presently down to two men working in Tanzania East Africa. If we are to develop our
mission in Tanzania and a meaningful formation program, more men will need to be sent.
Originally the next EGC was planned to take place in South America. For a number of reasons
this may no longer be practical. The next EGC will take place in Poland in September of
2010.
We have an aspirant in Tanzania. He is now going to Catechetical School near Musoma. His
name is Bernard Omboga Madara, he is a Kenyan.
