Kindergarten Roundup<br />
The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong> <strong>Central</strong> School District 2011-2012 Kindergarten Roundup will be held at the elementary<br />
school on Friday, <strong>March</strong> 25, 2011. A leer will be going out in late January to parents who have<br />
registered their children with the district census. If you haven’t filled out a Census Form, you may do so<br />
online at www.scc.k12.wi.us/Census Form or call the elementary school at the number below to request a form. We are asking<br />
people with children that will turn 5 years old before September 1, 2011 to call the elementary school and sign up for Roundup.<br />
Beginning Monday, February 7 you may call Kim Nielsen or Lori Sather at 715-749-3119 and set up a me slot for your child’s<br />
screening. Presentaons for parents and screening of the children will be done in a one hour me frame. Presentaon mes are<br />
8:00, 9:15, 10:30, 12:30 and 1:45. There are 25 me slots available during each presentaon. During the presentaon, parents will<br />
meet the kindergarten teachers, watch a PowerPoint presentaon and fill out enrollment cards. The children will be screened on<br />
their ability to draw self, trace (transfer) shapes and play with others during this one hour me slot. The screening will also include<br />
hearing and speech tesng. Denver Garfield, the school nurse, will also be part of the presentaon to discuss health records and<br />
immunizaon requirements for your child. Health records must be turned in by August 5, 2011. We’ve planned the snow date for<br />

Wonderland as she chases the<br />
White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird,<br />
gets ed up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing<br />
Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game!<br />
This fast-paced stage adaptaon of Alice in Wonderland<br />
features updated dialogue and new arrangements of such<br />
classic Disney songs as “I’m Late,” “The Un-birthday Song” and<br />
“Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.”<br />
The public is invited to aend the SCC Middle School play<br />
entled: “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” which will be held on<br />
Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 31 and Friday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the mulpurpose<br />
room of the middle school. Tickets will be sold for $2.00<br />
for adults, $1.00 for students and pre-school is free. Please join<br />
us for a night of entertainment at the middle school.<br />

SCC Choir Works with Dr. Demaree from UW-Plaeville<br />
Dr. Bob Demaree was hired to be the 2011 <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong> Valley Music<br />
Educator Associaon’s Honor Choir Clinician. Demaree joined<br />
the UW-Plaeville faculty in 1992. He conducts 3 ensembles and<br />
teaches numerous choral courses. <strong>St</strong>udents: Heidi Feyereisen,<br />
Amy Zerwas, Shannon Cliquennoi, Corynne Nelson, Kayla Boyd,<br />
Elling Hofland, Adam Jacobs, Ma Wold, Keith Troer, Adam<br />
Calcagno, and Elias Hofland performed in the 2011 SCVMEA<br />
Honors Choir held on January 8 th at New Richmond High School.<br />
Dr. Demaree arrived on Thursday, January 6 th , to work with the 8<br />
-12 grade SCC choirs. He listened to pieces from throughout the<br />
year along with a piece each choir is working on for the Spring<br />
Concert. Demaree criqued each choir on improvements that<br />
can be made, while also<br />
poinng out the<br />
strengths he saw in each<br />
choir. Alisha Hancock<br />
said, “I think Dr. Demaree<br />
was a very inspiring<br />
man”. Kendrick Hulse<br />
stated, “He was energec<br />
and provided advice and<br />
direcon which improved<br />
our basic sound”. Cassidy<br />
Simmons summed it up<br />
best with, “He made<br />
learning fun, there was giggles but hard work. It was a good experience”.<br />

Wisconsin All-<strong>St</strong>ate Choir<br />
Three <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong> <strong>Central</strong> boys were selected to perform in the 2011 WI Men’s All-<strong>St</strong>ate Choir held in Green Bay, WI on January 22 nd .<br />
Three seniors, Wesley Moss, Elling Hofland and Adam Jacobs, have excelled in choral music throughout their high school careers<br />
making them prime candidates to perform in this choir. Moss plans to pursue music educaon in college. The 2011 WI Choral<br />
Directors Associaon decided to focus in 2011 on our<br />
heritage and history by promong WI composers and<br />
directors. Therefore, Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of<br />
music and director of choral acvies in UW-Eau<br />
Claire, was chosen as the 2011 Men’s All-<strong>St</strong>ate Choir<br />
director. In 2010, WCDA presented Schwartzhoff with<br />
the Morris Hayes Award for lifeme achievement in<br />
the choral art. The boys arrived in Green Bay on<br />
Friday at noon and performed at 4 p.m. on Saturday.<br />
The choir had about 100 men from all around the<br />
state parcipang and performed 6 pieces. SCC is<br />
proud that these three boys did a great job represenng<br />
their school.<br />

am married to my husband <strong>St</strong>eve and we<br />
have 3 children, Mikaelyn, Ashlyn and<br />
Kaden. Aer graduang from Roncalli High<br />
in Aberdeen, South Dakota, I received a<br />
cerficate of compleon in shaken baby<br />
syndrome and child care training. I was a substute teacher at a<br />
community pre-school.<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong> <strong>Central</strong> School District has a newly created Diversity<br />
Commiee! The Diversity Commiee is in the beginning stages<br />
of its work. Currently, the commiee is exploring the<br />
wonderful things that are already being done at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong><br />
<strong>Central</strong> to celebrate diversity. In the future we will connue to<br />
look for unique and interesng ways to educate our students<br />
about diversity and the importance of acceptance, respect, and<br />
embracing the rich uniqueness contained within each<br />
individual. The commiee is comprised of administrators, staff<br />
members, parents, and soon will have student representaon<br />

TALENT NIGHT<br />
The elementary school students will be<br />
presenng a talent show on Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 3 at<br />
6:30 p.m. in the elementary school gym. <strong>St</strong>udents<br />
are invited to prepare and present their various talents for your<br />
entertainment. Parents and family members are also welcome<br />
to parcipate with their child and be part of the performance.<br />
<strong>St</strong>udents have the opportunity to pick up a sign up sheet with<br />
informaon and guidelines to help them prepare to be part of<br />
the talent show. Informaon and sign up sheets will be<br />
available in early February. Please join us on Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 3<br />

Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 17 th at 6:00 p.m.<br />
in the SCC Middle School.<br />
Middle School Educaonal/Career Conferences<br />
Grade 8 <strong>St</strong>udent-Parent Educaonal/Career Conferences are<br />
being scheduled from January through mid-<strong>March</strong> at SCC<br />
Middle School. The purpose of the conference is to ensure<br />
academic success for every student by focusing on a student’s<br />
current talents and interests, his or her educaonal and career<br />
development and goals. By reviewing academic strengths,<br />
career interests, aptudes and atudes, students and parents<br />
can select appropriate coursework to insure success in<br />
post-secondary educaon and the world-of-work.<br />
<strong>St</strong>udent/Parent Educaonal and Career Conferences assist<br />
students and parents in establishing an Individual Learning Plan<br />
for each student in order to transion successfully into high<br />
school and then on to post-secondary educaon or the worldof-work.<br />
The conferences typically last 45 minutes to an hour<br />
and are offered at various mes during the school day January<br />
14 through <strong>March</strong> 9, 2011. Detailed leers and schedules have<br />
been mailed to all 8 th grade parent(s)/guardian(s).<br />

The Whitesidewalls at SCC Middle School<br />
Mark your calendars! On Friday, April 15 th , the 5 th graders will show you why Middle<br />
School Rocks! 5 th graders are busy studying a unit called Middle School Rocks, in which<br />
they’re learning about the history of 20 th century music, leading up to rock and<br />
roll. They’re studying early rock and roll in depth, and soon will be learning how to play<br />
classic rock instruments, such as guitars, keyboards, and drums. The unit will culminate on April 15 th with a performance in the<br />
middle school large gym by The Whitesidewalls. The Whitesidewalls are a band that tours the Midwest playing popular rock songs<br />
from 1954-1964. You can find more informaon on them at www.whitesidewalls.com. The concert will be open to the public from<br />
3:00 to 5:00 p.m., with an admission price. Proceeds will go towards next year’s Whitesidewalls performance. Admission will be<br />

Next Year Course Registraon For 8th Grade Parents<br />
<strong>March</strong> 3, 2011 – HS Commons<br />
On Tuesday, <strong>March</strong> 1 st and Wednesday, <strong>March</strong> 2 nd , I will be<br />
meeng with all 8th grade students to hand out scheduling<br />
materials pertaining to the 2011-2012 school year and to explain<br />
courses available to them at the high school. All of these<br />
students will be requested to fill out a registraon wish list for<br />
next year, which will be done online through their “<strong>St</strong>udent<br />
Access” accounts.<br />
Parents will receive an email from “Family Access” explaining the<br />
me period that the future online scheduling opon will be open<br />
and available for you and your student to create your student’s<br />
next year schedule.<br />
They will also be compleng a Four-Year Plan for high school<br />
career at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong> <strong>Central</strong>. The reason for this Four-Year Plan is<br />
to help in scheduling prerequisite classes earlier in high school to<br />
prepare for their respecve classes in the laer part of high<br />
school.<br />
A parent meeng is scheduled to explain class offerings for<br />
grades 9-12 and to help you guide your child through their scheduling<br />
process. This meeng has been set up for Thursday, <strong>March</strong> 3 rd ,<br />
at 6:30 P.M. It will be held in the High School Commons in<br />
Hammond. Your child's aendance is not required at this meeng<br />
on <strong>March</strong> 3 rd , but we do request that you bring your child's scheduling<br />
packet that they received in school (on <strong>March</strong> 1 st and 2 nd ) to this<br />
meeng.<br />

Driver’s Educaon Meeng<br />

Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Registraon<br />
The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Croix</strong> <strong>Central</strong> School District 2011-2012 4K registraon will be held at the elementary school on Friday,<br />
<strong>March</strong> 18. A leer and registraon materials will be going out early <strong>March</strong> to parents who have registered their<br />
children with the district census.<br />
