Kindergarten Roundup 

The St. Croix Central School District 2011-2012 Kindergarten Roundup will be held at the elementary 

school on Friday, March 25, 2011. A leer will be going out in late January to parents who have 

registered their children with the district census. If you haven’t filled out a Census Form, you may do so 

online at www.scc.k12.wi.us/Census Form or call the elementary school at the number below to request a form. We are asking 

people with children that will turn 5 years old before September 1, 2011 to call the elementary school and sign up for Roundup. 

Beginning Monday, February 7 you may call Kim Nielsen or Lori Sather at 715-749-3119 and set up a me slot for your child’s 

screening. Presentaons for parents and screening of the children will be done in a one hour me frame. Presentaon mes are 

8:00, 9:15, 10:30, 12:30 and 1:45. There are 25 me slots available during each presentaon. During the presentaon, parents will 

meet the kindergarten teachers, watch a PowerPoint presentaon and fill out enrollment cards. The children will be screened on 

their ability to draw self, trace (transfer) shapes and play with others during this one hour me slot. The screening will also include 

hearing and speech tesng. Denver Garfield, the school nurse, will also be part of the presentaon to discuss health records and 

immunizaon requirements for your child. Health records must be turned in by August 5, 2011. We’ve planned the snow date for 

Friday, April 1, if necessary. If you have any quesons, please call Principal Steve Sanders at the elementary school (715-749-3119). 

SCC Middle School to present 

Alice in Wonderland, Jr. 

on March 31 & April 1 

at 7:00 p.m. 

Join Alice’s madcap adventures in 

Wonderland as she chases the 

White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, 

gets ed up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing 

Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! 

This fast-paced stage adaptaon of Alice in Wonderland 

features updated dialogue and new arrangements of such 

classic Disney songs as “I’m Late,” “The Un-birthday Song” and 

“Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.” 

The public is invited to aend the SCC Middle School play 

entled: “Alice in Wonderland, Jr.” which will be held on 

Thursday, March 31 and Friday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the mulpurpose 

room of the middle school. Tickets will be sold for $2.00 

for adults, $1.00 for students and pre-school is free. Please join 

us for a night of entertainment at the middle school.

SCC Choir Works with Dr. Demaree from UW-Plaeville 

Dr. Bob Demaree was hired to be the 2011 St. Croix Valley Music 

Educator Associaon’s Honor Choir Clinician. Demaree joined 

the UW-Plaeville faculty in 1992. He conducts 3 ensembles and 

teaches numerous choral courses. Students: Heidi Feyereisen, 

Amy Zerwas, Shannon Cliquennoi, Corynne Nelson, Kayla Boyd, 

Elling Hofland, Adam Jacobs, Ma Wold, Keith Troer, Adam 

Calcagno, and Elias Hofland performed in the 2011 SCVMEA 

Honors Choir held on January 8 th at New Richmond High School. 

Dr. Demaree arrived on Thursday, January 6 th , to work with the 8 

-12 grade SCC choirs. He listened to pieces from throughout the 

year along with a piece each choir is working on for the Spring 

Concert. Demaree criqued each choir on improvements that 

can be made, while also 

poinng out the 

strengths he saw in each 

choir. Alisha Hancock 

said, “I think Dr. Demaree 

was a very inspiring 

man”. Kendrick Hulse 

stated, “He was energec 

and provided advice and 

direcon which improved 

our basic sound”. Cassidy 

Simmons summed it up 

best with, “He made 

learning fun, there was giggles but hard work. It was a good experience”.

Wisconsin All-State Choir 

Three St. Croix Central boys were selected to perform in the 2011 WI Men’s All-State Choir held in Green Bay, WI on January 22 nd . 

Three seniors, Wesley Moss, Elling Hofland and Adam Jacobs, have excelled in choral music throughout their high school careers 

making them prime candidates to perform in this choir. Moss plans to pursue music educaon in college. The 2011 WI Choral 

Directors Associaon decided to focus in 2011 on our 

heritage and history by promong WI composers and 

directors. Therefore, Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of 

music and director of choral acvies in UW-Eau 

Claire, was chosen as the 2011 Men’s All-State Choir 

director. In 2010, WCDA presented Schwartzhoff with 

the Morris Hayes Award for lifeme achievement in 

the choral art. The boys arrived in Green Bay on 

Friday at noon and performed at 4 p.m. on Saturday. 

The choir had about 100 men from all around the 

state parcipang and performed 6 pieces. SCC is 

proud that these three boys did a great job represenng 

their school. 

New Staff At SCC 

Kristy Fry—Elementary Paraprofessional: I 

am married to my husband Steve and we 

have 3 children, Mikaelyn, Ashlyn and 

Kaden. Aer graduang from Roncalli High 

in Aberdeen, South Dakota, I received a 

cerficate of compleon in shaken baby 

syndrome and child care training. I was a substute teacher at a 

community pre-school.

Diversity Commiee 

St. Croix Central School District has a newly created Diversity 

Commiee! The Diversity Commiee is in the beginning stages 

of its work. Currently, the commiee is exploring the 

wonderful things that are already being done at St. Croix 

Central to celebrate diversity. In the future we will connue to 

look for unique and interesng ways to educate our students 

about diversity and the importance of acceptance, respect, and 

embracing the rich uniqueness contained within each 

individual. The commiee is comprised of administrators, staff 

members, parents, and soon will have student representaon 

as well. If you would like to be a part of the commiee or if 

you have any awesome ideas regarding diversity that you

TALENT NIGHT 

The elementary school students will be 

presenng a talent show on Thursday, March 3 at 

6:30 p.m. in the elementary school gym. Students 

are invited to prepare and present their various talents for your 

entertainment. Parents and family members are also welcome 

to parcipate with their child and be part of the performance. 

Students have the opportunity to pick up a sign up sheet with 

informaon and guidelines to help them prepare to be part of 

the talent show. Informaon and sign up sheets will be 

available in early February. Please join us on Thursday, March 3 

at 6:30 p.m. for a night of talent at the elementary school.

Any student considering parcipaon in a spring sport, grades 6- 

12, must have an updated file at SCC High School or Middle 

School before he/she will be allowed to parcipate. The following 

items must be turned in to Mrs. Cress (HS) or Mrs. Bohaa 

(MS) prior to the start of spring sports beginning in March or 

April: 

• Middle School and High School athletes - a green physical 

card or a yellow alternate year card 

• High School athletes only - an athlete form signed by both a 

parent and parcipant indicang they understand the SCC and 

WIAA Athlec Codes

are performing a Spring Concert on 

Thursday, March 17 th at 6:00 p.m. 

in the SCC Middle School. 

Middle School Educaonal/Career Conferences 

Grade 8 Student-Parent Educaonal/Career Conferences are 

being scheduled from January through mid-March at SCC 

Middle School. The purpose of the conference is to ensure 

academic success for every student by focusing on a student’s 

current talents and interests, his or her educaonal and career 

development and goals. By reviewing academic strengths, 

career interests, aptudes and atudes, students and parents 

can select appropriate coursework to insure success in 

post-secondary educaon and the world-of-work. 

Student/Parent Educaonal and Career Conferences assist 

students and parents in establishing an Individual Learning Plan 

for each student in order to transion successfully into high 

school and then on to post-secondary educaon or the worldof-work. 

The conferences typically last 45 minutes to an hour 

and are offered at various mes during the school day January 

14 through March 9, 2011. Detailed leers and schedules have 

been mailed to all 8 th grade parent(s)/guardian(s).

The Whitesidewalls at SCC Middle School 

Mark your calendars! On Friday, April 15 th , the 5 th graders will show you why Middle 

School Rocks! 5 th graders are busy studying a unit called Middle School Rocks, in which 

they’re learning about the history of 20 th century music, leading up to rock and 

roll. They’re studying early rock and roll in depth, and soon will be learning how to play 

classic rock instruments, such as guitars, keyboards, and drums. The unit will culminate on April 15 th with a performance in the 

middle school large gym by The Whitesidewalls. The Whitesidewalls are a band that tours the Midwest playing popular rock songs 

from 1954-1964. You can find more informaon on them at www.whitesidewalls.com. The concert will be open to the public from 

3:00 to 5:00 p.m., with an admission price. Proceeds will go towards next year’s Whitesidewalls performance. Admission will be

Senior Class of 2011—Wisconsin Covenant 

Wisconsin Covenant Pledge forms will be arriving in early 

January 2011 to your home address that you used when you 

signed up for the Wisconsin Covenant in the spring of your 8 th 

grade year or the fall of your freshman year. Your forms must 

be completed and returned by April 1, 2011. The Office of the 

Wisconsin Covenant will not accept late confirmaon forms.

Next Year Course Registraon For 8th Grade Parents 

March 3, 2011 – HS Commons 

On Tuesday, March 1 st and Wednesday, March 2 nd , I will be 

meeng with all 8th grade students to hand out scheduling 

materials pertaining to the 2011-2012 school year and to explain 

courses available to them at the high school. All of these 

students will be requested to fill out a registraon wish list for 

next year, which will be done online through their “Student 

Access” accounts. 

Parents will receive an email from “Family Access” explaining the 

me period that the future online scheduling opon will be open 

and available for you and your student to create your student’s 

next year schedule. 

They will also be compleng a Four-Year Plan for high school 

career at St. Croix Central. The reason for this Four-Year Plan is 

to help in scheduling prerequisite classes earlier in high school to 

prepare for their respecve classes in the laer part of high 

school. 

A parent meeng is scheduled to explain class offerings for 

grades 9-12 and to help you guide your child through their scheduling 

process. This meeng has been set up for Thursday, March 3 rd , 

at 6:30 P.M. It will be held in the High School Commons in 

Hammond. Your child's aendance is not required at this meeng 

on March 3 rd , but we do request that you bring your child's scheduling 

packet that they received in school (on March 1 st and 2 nd ) to this 

meeng.

March 7 th .

Substute Special Educaon Paraprofessionals Wanted 

Openings are available for Substute Special Educaon 

Paraprofessionals, with a preference for those already holding a 

Special Educaon Paraprofessional License, 883. These individuals 

will be responsible for working with Special Educaon 

students in the classroom. Interested applicants can call one of

U.S. Bank—awards 40 $1,000 scholarships in a random drawing 

each year. No essay, no minimum GPA required. Apply online

SAMMY 2010—14 h annual “Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of 

the Year” (SAMMY 2010) award program. The program recognizes 

outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12. 25 winners will receive

The St. Croix Valley Chapter 331 of the Vietnam Veterans of 

America Scholarship-provides two $1,000 awards each year to

Angel On My Shoulder - is a cancer support organizaon. The 

qualifying criteria for the scholarship includes students who are

Driver’s Educaon Meeng 

There will be an oponal informaonal Driver’s 

Educaon meeng held on Thursday, March 3 rd 

from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the high school 

commons. This meeng is for both parents and 

students who are interested in learning more about how the 

program works at St. Croix Central High School. Some of the 

topics that will be discussed include cost, summer class 

schedule, behind the wheel schedule, tesng process and other 

important informaon on geng a driving permit and driver’s 

license. 

St. Croix Central Community Educaon is sponsoring 

a candidate forum on Saturday, March 

19 th from 11:00-noon at the St. Croix Central 

High School Community Educaon room. The 

candidates from the Hammond Village that are 

running for President and Trustees will be present to introduce 

themselves and answer your quesons. This is part of

Professional Development. Classes will start and buses will run 2 hours later than normal.

seniors were awarded a “4 

Year Leerwinner Plaque” for academic excellence. To earn this award, the senior must have earned the academic leer and met 

the eligibility criteria for all four years of high school. 

Eligibility criteria for the award includes: 

1. Senior students must have a 3.33 GPA or beer for the first semester of the school year. 

2. Student must take at least six classes per semester. 

3. Students who choose to study abroad will not be eligible for an academic leer while abroad. 

5. Home-schooled students are not eligible for an academic leer.

Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Registraon 

The St. Croix Central School District 2011-2012 4K registraon will be held at the elementary school on Friday, 

March 18. A leer and registraon materials will be going out early March to parents who have registered their 

children with the district census. 

If you haven’t filled out a census form, you may do so online at 

hp://www.scc.k12.wi.us/es/es_census_forms.cfm or call the elementary school at the number below to 

request a form. We will be taking registraon calls for this meeng starng March 1 st . Parents with children 

who will turn 4 years old before September 1, 2011 can call Kim Gunderson at 715-749-3119 to reserve a me slot. Presentaons 

will last one hour and are scheduled at 9:15, 10:30, 12:30, and 1:45. During the presentaon, parents will learn about the program, 

ask quesons, view informaon from each site and fill out enrollment cards. This registraon meeng is for parents only; therefore, 

we ask you to not bring your child with you. If you have any quesons, please call the Director of Special Educaon and 

Student Services Jennifer Olson at the elementary school (715-749-3119).
