WSU GME / RESIDENT ABILITY TO RAISE ISSUES:
The Institution provides an environment in which
residents may raise and resolve issues without fear
of intimidation or retaliation as follows:
Resident Quality Council: The Resident Quality Council
meets at least 6 times a year. Administrative support is
provided by the Office of Graduate Medical Education. The
agenda is set by the Resident Quality Council Officers at a
pre-meeting. All Resident Q u a l i t y Council meetings are
held with GME support. This provides the residents an
opportunity to express views in a confidential manner.
Subsequent information is then brought to the GMEC for its
review.
Office of Graduate Medical Education Open Door Policy:
The Office of GME has an open door policy for residents/
fellows to speak on confidential matters either with the Directors
or the DIO. Issues are brought before the DIO’s
weekly Team GME meetings and subsequently from there
to the GMEC. Resident Hotline: (248) 457-5120
Anonymous Suggestion/Comment Boxes: The GME office
provides enrolled Residents an anonymous venue for reporting
concerns via Anonymous Suggestion/Comment Boxes. These
locked comment boxes are available on site to facilitate resident
reporting ease and protect resident confidentiality. Comments
are collected monthly by a GME representative and
reported issues and concerns will be reviewed and addressed
by the DIO.
WSU Office of the Ombudsman: Through Wayne State
University, residents have options to address issues completely
outside of medicine and the hospital system
through the WSU Office of the Ombudsperson. The Office of
the Ombudsperson exists to assist students, faculty and staff
in solving University-related problems. The Office can help
students break through bureaucratic issues, overcome unfair
treatment, or obtain consideration of extenuating circumstance
by providing information and advice and by facilitating
communication. The Office has no authority to change
academic or administrative decisions, although it has been

Other mechanisms in place include Internal Reviews, Annual
GME Resident Survey, and EAP (Employee Assistance
Program).
