From the desk(s) of 3Rock Youth…
WOW, what a jammed packed month
we’ve had and the year has only just begin!
We had a great morning in a very full
family service in Blessington, a fantastic
evening in Lisburn Cathedral, a wonderful
weekend with Scripture Union at the
Christian Union’s gathering, a day of
training with CIYD and have kicked off the
years work being undertaken in Rathdown
Girls School. Add to that a couple brilliant
days working at the National Ploughing
Championships and the development and
release of Ireland’s first youth work App,
“3Rock Youth App” and you’ve got a lot of
momentum for our youth in the dioceses.

3 THINGS TO HIGHLIGHT
The Internship, Essential at Christ Church
Cathedral and the “3Rock Youth App”.
Let’s begin with an interview with new
Intern Joanna Heaney of Redcross.
After having gotten an A1 in Agricultural
Science in her Leaving Certificate, Jo
Heaney was REALLY excited about heading
to the National Ploughing Championships.
Q1) What was it like?
"It was an early start to the day as we
drove down to Athy Co. Kildare. When we
arrived the crowds were already starting
to swarm the grounds. We were together
with the Methodist and Catholic churches
manning a Prayer space .We had a quiet
space were prayer services were held on
the hour, there was also a prayer wall, for
people to stick up their own personal
prayers. I think one of the things that hit
me was to find a quiet place in the crowds
to focus on God (even though there was
the background sounds of paintballing
from the stall next-door!) It was so
encouraging to see people walk in and use
this space throughout the few days!"
Q2) Who’s the most famous person
you know?
Although Redcross is quite often used as
a film set, usually for a film that involves
leprechauns, I don't think I know anyone
famous!
Q3) Since you have started the
3Rock Youth Internship what has
been significant experience for you?
So far I've loved the internship, the most
significant experience for me was probably
the Unite weekend away, it was such a fun
camp but also so inspiring to see these
teenagers equipping themselves to run
C.U's in their school, it certainly challenges
you to stand up in your faith!
Weirdest Experience?
I think the weirdest experience so far is
probably being woken up to one of the
other interns sleep talking!
Q4) What do you hope to get out of
the Internship at the end of the
year?
I hope to get a better understanding of
youth work out of the internship and to
grow more as a person! I also want to
grow stronger in my relationship with God
through this year.
Q5) Is there something we should
know about you that is unusual?
I have this habit of remembering
incredibly useless facts… for example;
sloths take two weeks to digest their food!
