granted for a hotel. To the south is the golf course and to the west
is agricultural land. The golf course and agricultural land are not
within the applicant’s ownership.
Site Location
Drayton Manor Park is located within the County of Staffordshire,
within Lichfield District. The Park is located about 0.5km to the south
of the village of Fazeley and is accessed off the A4091 which
connects to the A5 to the north and junction 9 of the M42 to the south.
Drayton Manor Park is a major amusement/theme park which was
first opened in 1950 and since this date has developed into the
family attraction it is today. The park extends to some 116 hectares,
of which around 40 hectares is occupied by the theme park, zoo and
function suites.
The main theme park and zoo attractions open between March –
September although the Park is host to functions, weddings etc
within the banqueting suites all through the year. The Park also
hosts a number of rallies and events, for which the campsites are
utilised throughout the year.
To the north of Drayton Manor Park there is a narrow strip of
agricultural land that separates the Park from the village of
Fazeley. To the south of the Park is a golf course which separates
the park from the village of Drayton Basset, approximately 0.9 km
to the south of Drayton Manor Park.
Agricultural land lies beyond the woodland area to the west of the
Park whereas to the east there is a large factory site known as
Foseco site.
The majority of the Park is designated within the Local
Development Plan as a Major Developed Site within the Green
Belt, however the application site lies outside the MDS. The Green
Belt washed over the whole of the southern part of the District.
The application site is located to the south west of the theme park,
beyond the site on which planning permission has recently been
