Site <strong>and</strong> Surrounding Area<br />
granted for a hotel. To the south is the golf course <strong>and</strong> to the west<br />
is agricultural l<strong>and</strong>. The golf course <strong>and</strong> agricultural l<strong>and</strong> are not<br />
within the applicant’s ownership.<br />
Site Location<br />
Drayton Manor Park is located within the County of Staffordshire,<br />
within <strong>Lichfield</strong> <strong>District</strong>. The Park is located about 0.5km to the south<br />
of the village of Fazeley <strong>and</strong> is accessed off the A4091 which<br />
connects to the A5 to the north <strong>and</strong> junction 9 of the M42 to the south.<br />
Drayton Manor Park is a major amusement/theme park which was<br />
first opened in 1950 <strong>and</strong> since this date has developed into the<br />
family attraction it is today. The park extends to some 116 hectares,<br />
of which around 40 hectares is occupied by the theme park, zoo <strong>and</strong><br />
function suites.<br />
The main theme park <strong>and</strong> zoo attractions open between March –<br />
September although the Park is host to functions, weddings etc<br />
within the banqueting suites all through the year. The Park also<br />
hosts a number of rallies <strong>and</strong> events, for which the campsites are<br />
utilised throughout the year.<br />
To the north of Drayton Manor Park there is a narrow strip of<br />
agricultural l<strong>and</strong> that separates the Park from the village of<br />
Fazeley. To the south of the Park is a golf course which separates<br />
the park from the village of Drayton Basset, approximately 0.9 km<br />
to the south of Drayton Manor Park.<br />
Agricultural l<strong>and</strong> lies beyond the woodl<strong>and</strong> area to the west of the<br />
Park whereas to the east there is a large factory site known as<br />
Foseco site.<br />
The majority of the Park is designated within the Local<br />
Development Plan as a Major Developed Site within the Green<br />
Belt, however the application site lies outside the MDS. The Green<br />
Belt washed over the whole of the southern part of the <strong>District</strong>.<br />
The application site is located to the south west of the theme park,<br />
beyond the site on which planning permission has recently been<br />
