Girls PE
It has been an exciting term for girls PE, with
numerous achievements. Girls have
participated in the Coventry, Solihull and
Warwickshire Level 3 County School Games
Festival this term through minority sports such
as golf and rowing. An outstanding effort from
the year 9 girls gained them 1st place out of 6
schools in rowing. Paris Allen, Carly Neal, Lucy
Parsons and Clara Malara demonstrated their
muscular strength and endurance through
strong individual performances and a team
relay. Rachel Downing, Eva Vicary and Kelsey
McFarlane (year 7) have also been
demonstrating their developing golfing ability
through competitive matches.
It has been a great term for Rounder’s in the
girls department with our year 7 & 9 teams
beating Stoke Park in their first match. The
year 8 team were narrowly beat, but Miss
Elliott is sure they will be victorious next time.
Unfortunately the year 7 & 8 rounder’s
tournaments have been postponed due to
weather conditions; however year 9 achieved
great success in their tournament. Their skill
and effort won them 4 out of 5 matches, but
sadly they lost to King Henry VIII in the semifinals.
Eva Vicary (year 7) is a very talented and keen
swimmer, often at poolside for 5.30am. Her
coach has identified her as making substantial
progression and next April she is going to be
attending a swimming camp in Spain. So good
luck Eva- do Whitley proud! We would like to
congratulate Paris Allen for being selected for
the Great British Biathle team, where she will
represent Great Britain in Germany and also
South Korea over the summer. We would also
like to congratulate Lucy Parsons for being
selected for the West Midlands U15 County
Basketball team for another year running.
Monday nights are busy in the PE department
with a whole host of year 7 enrichment clubs
going on: badminton; golf; rounders; and
tennis. Gifted and Talented PE pupils also take
part in a Mixed Martial Arts programme, for
which they will attain an accredited
qualification. After only two sessions, pupils are
becoming a lot more confident in relation to self
-defence and have added lots of interesting
martial arts moves to their movement
vocabulary.
A massive well done to all the girls from years
7, 8 and 9 that have represented the school in
the Coventry Schools’ Athletics. The following
pupils represented the school in the year 7 & 8
championships: Rachel Downing; Eva Vicary;
Celia Negrobar; Natalie Hill; Yamna Paradis;
Chloe Sedgely; Kiera McCann; Caitlyn Collier
and Audrey Lelievre. All pupils competed to the
best of their ability with Eva Vicary coming 2nd
getting a fantastic time of 3.39 seconds in the
1000m. Paris Allen (year 9) was also called
upon to represent Coventry in the West
Midlands Championships for her 1500m.
