In Oc<strong>to</strong>ber, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Children</strong> & Families partners with<br />

community agencies and organizations <strong>to</strong> spread<br />

awareness about programs and services available <strong>to</strong> aid<br />

residents victimized by domestic violence. Members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

community wear purple ribbons as a sign <strong>of</strong> unified support<br />

for victims <strong>of</strong> domestic violence.<br />

Meet Sharon “Cherie” Chierco<br />

Actively involved in community collaborations<br />

that bring help <strong>to</strong> families in need<br />

In addition <strong>to</strong> reviewing cases and supervising a team <strong>of</strong> protective<br />

investiga<strong>to</strong>rs, Sharon Chierco thrives in her volunteer community<br />

leadership role as Secretary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Palm Beach County Domestic<br />

Violence Council.<br />

“The Council’s goal is <strong>to</strong> bring <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r a network <strong>of</strong> support agencies<br />

that aid families victimized by domestic violence at home,” said Cherie,<br />

A <strong>Department</strong> employee <strong>of</strong> 15 years. “Toge<strong>the</strong>r, we represent a wealth <strong>of</strong> information about services<br />

available in <strong>the</strong> community <strong>to</strong> assist families who need <strong>the</strong>m.”<br />

<strong>Department</strong> investigations in<strong>to</strong> allegations <strong>of</strong> abuse and/or neglect, whe<strong>the</strong>r adults or children, <strong>of</strong>ten<br />

find domestic violence at <strong>the</strong> root. “Our resources support casework in a critical way,” Cherie said, “and<br />

it is a passion <strong>of</strong> mine <strong>to</strong> let everyone know that help is a phone call away.”<br />
