Johnathon Kauffmann
FORSYTH COUNTY FAMILY YMCA
Johnathon Kauffmann reached a breaking point. At nearly
400 pounds, he knew it was time to make a change. In
2008, a colleague encouraged Johnathon to join the Y.
Since then his life has changed for the better, and not
just physically.
The Y gives Johnathon the opportunity to build new
relationships, and discover new areas of physical and
spiritual growth. He attributes his success to being
surrounded by positive and energetic like-minded people
at the Y. Johnathon now enjoys helping others reach their
health or fitness goals by giving back a little piece of what
worked for him.
He gives back in other ways, too. He is a Forsyth County Y
board member and helped to raise $30,000 to send local
kids to Y resident camp last summer.

As the nonprofit leader for youth development, the YMCA
is closing the school readiness gap and equipping preschool
children with skills to be successful in school.
IMPROVE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
With a variety of high-quality, after-school and summer
day camp programs, the Y places education squarely at the
forefront of future personal and professional success.
EMPOWER HEALTHY LIVING
As the nonprofit leader for health and well-being, the Y offers
programs and activities that impact the lives of thousands of
children and adults—encouraging them to live healthier and
be more active at every phase of their development.
INSPIRE TEEN LEADERSHIP
The Y’s teen programs are developing the next
generation of leaders by providing a values-centered
leadership academy at local Ys and resident camp.
Our why:
Forsyth County Family YMCA
50 kids are active and challenged in summer day camp.
Day camp provides an affordable and accessible summer
program for children that helps to reinforce character
development, prevent summer learning loss and give
working parents peace of mind.
Underserved kids from each Forsyth County elementary and
middle school have the opportunity to attend resident camp.
Resident camp gives kids the chance to explore nature,
discover new talents, gain independence, and make lasting
friendships and memories.
1,000 families in need have access to Y programs
through scholarships.
Children and families in our community need the Y now
more than ever. Anyone who expresses an inability to
pay is offered financial assistance. Scholarships provide
opportunities for individuals and families to experience
YMCA programs.
