EC Regulation No 1907/2006 - REACH
• CAB-O-SIL® polydimethylsiloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed silica products are chemically surface treated
silica. The European Chemicals Agency has provided guidance on the status of chemically surface treated
substances in their "Frequently Asked Questions about REACH ". As a result of this guidance (FAQ 6.3.8. on
http://echa.europa.eu/reach/faq_en.asp), to (pre)-register the chemically surface treated products, it is
necessary to (pre)-register the base particles (i.e., synthetic amorphous silica) and the surface treatment
substances.
• We confirm that Cabot Corporation has

o
o
registered untreated fumed silica under REACH, meeting the December 1, 2010 deadline (REACH
Registration Number: 01-2119379499-16) and
pre-registered the surface treatment substance
• The different obligations within the EU REACH legislation are described in a specific Cabot REACH statement
separate from the present one. This statement is regularly updated to address the list of Substances of Very
High Concern (SVHC) which is frequently modified by the EU Authorities. The current version of Cabot’s
REACH statement is available from our website in the “Downloads” section at www.cabot-corp.com. Please
refer to this information
NOTE: Non-EU producers that import substances into the EU may need to use the service of our Only
Representative to be covered under REACH. For further information, please contact your Cabot sales
representative.
Inorganic and Organic Impurities
CAB-O-SIL® polydimethylsiloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed silica products are not routinely analyzed for the
presence of the following organic and inorganic impurities. To the best of our knowledge, Cabot Corporation
believes these chemicals are not present in the raw materials used in the manufacture of our CAB-O-SIL®
polydimethylsiloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed silica products nor are these substances used in our
production and handling processes. Therefore, they are not expected to be present in CAB-O-SIL® polydimethyl
siloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed silica product(s) above trace concentrations (i.e., low ppm or less).
Organic Impurities
• Acrylamide
• Aliphatic and aromatic solvents
• Azo compounds, aromatic amines and dyes
• Bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (BADGE); Bis (hydroxyphenyl) methane bis (2,3-epoxypropyl) ethers (BFDGE);
and novolac glycidyl ethers (NOGE)
• Endocrine disrupters, such as phthalates and bisphenol-A
• Furans
• Formaldehyde
• Glycol ethers
• Aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbons, dioxins, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls
(PCBs), polychlorinated terphenyls (PCT), and fluorinated hydrocarbons
• Brominated hydrocarbons and flame retardants, such as polybrominated biphyenyls (PBB), polybrominated
diphenyl ethers (PBDE), pentaromodiphenyl ether (pentaBDE), and octabromodiphenyl ether (octaBDE)
• Ozone depleting substances (ODS), such as CFCs and HCFCs
• Hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), as defined by United States regulations and EU directives
• Latex
• Organotin derivatives
• Phenols
• Perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS ) and Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and its salts as regulated by EU
Directive 2006/122/EC
• Pesticides, insecticides, fungicides (including Dimethyl Fumarate – DMF as regulated by EU Directive
2009/251/EC), rodenticides, herbicides and biocides
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), as defined by United States regulations and EU directives
Inorganic Impurities
• Asbestos

• Heavy metals: lead, mercury, cadmium, and hexavalent chromium – are not intentionally added to CAB-O-
SIL® polydimethylsiloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed silica products during their manufacture or
handling processes. In addition, to the best of our knowledge, the sum of the incidental concentration
levels of lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium present in a CAB-O-SIL® polydimethyl
siloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed silica product does not exceed 100 parts per million by weight.
RoHS EU Directive 2002/95/EC as amended and modified by Commission Regulation 2005/618/EC
Cabot Corporation does not routinely test its CAB-O-SIL® polydimethylsiloxane polymer (PDMS) treated fumed
silica products for the presence of RoHS substances. However, to the best of our knowledge, Cd, Cr VI, Hg, Pb,
polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenylethers derivatives (including decabromodiphenyl ether) are not
used during the production of Cabot PDMS-treated fumed silica products.
Presence of GMO
To the best of our knowledge, Cabot Corporation’s CAB-O-SIL® polydimethylsiloxane polymer (PDMS) treated
fumed silica products do not contain any genetically modified organism (GMO) products or materials, nor do they
come into contact with any GMO product or material during their manufacture and handling.
