The 2012 Honda CRV has arrived in New Zealand,
providing new options for those who have busy
lives and who need to be able to fit a myriad of
activities into their day. Everyday business and
family travel is easy, while seamlessly
accommodating those opportunities to escape out
of town is a forte of the CRV.
For the first time the CRV is available in either
4WD or 2WD. This provides options for skiers and
bach owners, or around-towners who love the
benefits of a highly versatile SUV but don’t need to
travel off the beaten track.
Powerful and luxurious, the CRV Sport’s 2.4-litre
engine has been redeveloped for 2012. It delivers a
12% improvement in power for a total of 140kW
and 222Nm torque. At the same time Honda has
eked out a 13% improvement in fuel economy, the
outcome of fine tuning every aspect of the vehicle.
This results in the Sport achieving 8.7 litres per
100km (ADR). For added control the Sport also
includes racing-inspired steering wheel-mounted
shift paddles to give you the versatility of a manual
with the practicality of an automatic.
New to the range is the CRV S with an economical
2.0-litre engine that Honda engineers have
developed from the sophisticated NP4 engine
which is shared with the 2.0l Civic sedan in New
Zealand. The CRV S delivers power of 114kW and
190Nm torque, with fuel economy of 7.7l/100km,
offering medium hatch running costs in a large
SUV.
Standard on the CRV is the ECON operating mode
which, by choice, increases the potential for drivers
to improve the vehicle's fuel efficiency when the
system is activated.
These impressive performance figures are
packaged into a distinctive SUV design, with a
strong front grille, smooth, aerodynamic lines and
distinctive rear window. A longer roofline reduces
the coefficient of drag by 8%, improving the car’s
balance.
The essentials for driving enjoyment on those
longer drives are balance and stability. The CRV
encompasses these by combining body design,
engine dynamics and gear logic to increase the
vehicle's stability, keeping the CRV balanced and
you in full control.
With a flat torque curve, consistent acceleration is
provided across the rev range and the gear logic
control holds the gear through corners because the
last thing you want is a gear change in the middle
of a corner, throwing the car of balance. In highspeed
cornering and manoeuvring the CRV feels
stable and controlled.

phone contacts displayed
in the i-MID display and the ability to
answer and make calls using the

system loaded on your phone, the
Bluetooth connection is able to stream
instructions through the CRV’s audio.

quick-fold Magic Seats are included for
2012. Rear seats have the ability to lie
flat, providing an impressive 1669 litres
maximum cargo space or 589 litres to
the window line with all the seats up,
meaning your CRV is always ready, no
matter what your impulse.
The real trick with CRV’s Magic Seats is
just how easy they are to use. Pull the
quick-release handle on either side of
the boot or the pull-tab on either side of
the car to drop the seats flat. The result
is fun to watch as the headrest moves
out of the way, the seat squabs lift up
and the seat back drops down, without
any assistance. By pulling another tab
by the headrests, the seats will
effortlessly lift back up.
Combined with the huge space, the
boot floor is low, making it easy to lift
large and heavy items into the vehicle.
Honda’s R&D delivers not only an
incredibly versatile SUV, but a high
safety ranking with a 5-star American
NHTSA rating. This is achieved
through Honda’s unique Advanced
Compatibility Engineering (ACE)
body design. ACE designs structural
strength for safety, while delivering a
strong and rigid body to allow for
better handling and the impressive
interior space of the CRV.
While interior front-seat shoulder
room is increased by 75mm and boot
space and safety are increased, the
exterior width remains the same.
But the CRV’s length is reduced by
30mm, making parking that much
easier.
The CRV has a great on-road feeling.

while its exterior dimensions retain
the ease of use and driveability. In
the driving seat, you feel on top of
the world and in total control.
Two models are available. The CRV S
at $39,900 comes with 2.0-litre
i-VTEC 2WD engine, reversing
camera, i-MID Bluetooth phone and
music streaming, front, side and
curtain airbags, iPod integration,
Magic Seats and 17-inch alloy
wheels. The CRV Sport adds class-
leading power, comfort and luxury.
