OAA is an area of sports education that provides both
individual and team challenges to all students. Block
3 students experience a week in Ullswater providing
a great opportunity to test themselves in a variety of
activities including rafting, sailing, climbing and hill
walking.
In Block 4, as part of the weekly sports programme
in the spring term, students attend the Peter Ashley
Centre at Fort Purbrook, where they take part
in archery, rifle shooting, initiative tests, indoor
climbing / bouldering, and the assault course.
Having piloted the programme this year, it was very
successful with staff and instructors delighted with
the efforts of the students.
Students across the year groups have the opportunity
to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh awards, which
are voluntary awards for 14-25 year olds. To fulfil the
requirements of the award, you must help in your
community, take part in physical activity, have a
willingness to develop and learn new skills, and take
part in the expeditions. A number of students have
been undertaking the awards over the last few years,
and it has helped to develop both their individual
and team skills.
