Security upgrades at VGH Health Centre and UBCH Detwiller Pavilion
As part of our privacy, safety and security upgrades to the Health Centre at VGH and the Detwiller
Pavilion at UBC, we are introducing new after-hours access procedures in September.
New card readers are being installed at entries to both facilities as follows:
• VGH Health Centre – Effective September 10, entries will be locked daily from 21:45 to 08:00 hrs
• UBCH Detwiller – Effective September 24, entries will be locked daily from 22:00 to 06:00 hrs

We realize this change will affect a number of people — employees, physicians, residents, suppliers
and more — which is why we seek your support with the following:
Identify
To ensure a smooth transition for all, we would appreciate your assistance identifying and
compiling a list of those who require after-hours access to these facilities on a regular basis
in order to perform their job; or, who may need professional access on a sporadic but
urgent basis.
Supply To ensure uninterrupted access, please supply your list of names to me —
Heather.Skappak@vch.ca — as soon as possible. This will ensure access cards are
reprogrammed by deadline.
In addition to the new card readers, both facilities will be equipped with exterior cameras and intercoms
at the main entrances, security cameras throughout the units, and exterior lighting at the front and back
of the Health Centre. The new security systems will allow each unit to view and speak with people at
the main entrances when doors are locked, providing an added layer of security.
I thank you for your support and understanding on such short notice. We appreciate your cooperation
as we continue to enhance the privacy, safety and security of all those residing, working and visiting at
our VGH Health Centre and UBCH Detwiller Pavilion. Should you have any questions, I’d be happy to
answer them.
