NORMANTON 2013
YOUTH TREK@NORMANTON
ADVENTURE CHALLENGE CAMP
23 JUNE— 3 JULY
Riverside Christian College, Maryborough is sending a team of staff
and students on a 4,000 kilometre journey through the heart of
Outback Queensland to Normanton, a remote community in the
Gulf of Carpentaria. The aim of this journey is for the Riverside
students to run a 3‐day Youth Development Program called
“YouthTrek@Normanton ‐ Adventure Challenge Camp”. This
program is based on the highly successful YouthTrek@Riverside
adventure based leadership program that is run at Riverside
Christian College with 64 Year 9, 10 and 11 students. The Year 10
& 11 students who have been in the YouthTrek program for more
than 1 and a half years, will be invited to participate in the planning
and delivery of the 3‐day YouthTrek@Normanton Adventure
Challenge Camp. By working closely with the Normanton State
School and the Carpentaria Shire Council 12 local youth will be
invited to participate in the YouthTrek@Normanton Adventure
Challenge Camp with the aim of giving them an experience of
YouthTrek and then through ongoing training and support during
2013 helping them to establish a regular YouthTrek@Normanton
program, which will have close links with the YouthTrek@Riverside
program. The clear purpose behind this journey is to add value to
the community of Normanton through the development of its
young people whilst at the same time adding value to Riverside
Christian College through the development of the young people
who are being immersed in this experience.
