SIXTH GRADE OBJECTIVES
Academic/Educational Domain
6.1 The student will develop an orientation to the educational environment by:
· becoming familiar with the school learning environment including the programs, services and activities
offered, school staff, school rules, and physical plant
· expanding awareness of the Standards of Learning objectives and other student expectations identified
in the Pittsylvania County Strategic Plan for Education
6.2 The student will resolve problems which interfere with learning by identifying
problems and developing skills and behaviors to resolve/cope with them by:
· identifying steps for problem solving
· developing plans for educational goals
· becoming an active participant in educational planning
6.3 The student will gain knowledge of his/her academic abilities, including strengths and educational needs
and interests by:
· identifying strengths and weaknesses
· resolving problems related to class work and homework
· making use of assignment planners
· analyzing Stanford 9 test results
6.4 The student will gain knowledge of effective study skills by exhibiting
satisfactory achievement in:
· listening skills
· time management skills
· test-taking skills
· identifying learning styles
· following directions
· organizational skills
6.5 The student will relate school subjects to careers by:
· relating ways in which school experiences are relevant to the world of work
· becoming knowledgeable of middle school and high school courses of study
6.6 The student will become aware of academic abilities and skills needed for
effective functioning in each curricular area, and will attain state-identified level of
proficiency for the Standards of Learning
6.7 The student will pursue a planned and balanced program of studies consistent with abilities, interests, and
educational needs.
