Reproductive ultrasonography in
animal species has been evolving since
the early 1970's and is a well proven method of
determining placental health, foetal well being
and foetal numbers, in addition to diagnosing
pregnancy.
The ultrasonic examination of the Alpaca's
uterus and its content is the 'gold standard'
method for pregnancy confirmation – a major
part of any well planned breeding programme.
Trans-abdominal ultrasound examination
minimises the stress of the Alpaca, ensuring
maximum animal welfare. The alternative
trans-rectal scan should only be used for
specific ovarian diagnosis.

The BREDA is a compact low cost 90°
sector scan system which is ideal for transabdominal
scanning of Alpacas between 45
and 180 days post breeding.
Our most popular pregnancy system for
non-veterinarians is the Duo-Scan 3. The
Duo-Scan is a portable and robust system
which uses a heads-up display goggles to
display excellent images. It provides a 170º
image, which allows the operator to view
the entire uterine contents without having
to 'search', as with a fertility probe. This
provides a higher degree of accuracy than
with a conventional 90º probe. With minimal
time spent scanning, there is less stress to the
animal.
Clinical training and sales support, both
in the field and back at base, are extremely

provide a half day hands-on training course
so the new operator is proficient to scan for
pregnancy with a high level of accuracy.
