<strong>Hair</strong> and <strong>Beauty</strong> Department<br />

Help Rug Aid Project<br />

The hair and beauty department at the Horsforth<br />

Campus have raised £90 for Rug Aid by <strong>of</strong>fering back<br />

massages at £5 per massage to staff across the <strong>College</strong>.<br />

The money will go towards supporting colleague Chris Lelliot in her trip<br />

to Gambia in aid <strong>of</strong> the Rug Aid Project.<br />

10 students from a year 11 N.C.F.E. <strong>Hair</strong> and <strong>Beauty</strong><br />

schools group presented Martin House Hospice<br />

representative Verona Milne, with a check for a<br />

hundred pounds.<br />

The group organised a series <strong>of</strong> enterprising activities for year 11<br />

enterprise weeks. The activities included name the teddy, shake the<br />

bucket and count the sweets in the jar. Martin House Hospice was<br />

chosen because one <strong>of</strong> the groups had a positive personal experience<br />

<strong>of</strong> the charity.<br />

Students Put Styles<br />

On Show for Industry Reps<br />

Salon owners from across the city were treated to a<br />

stylish show <strong>of</strong> skills at a special employers’ event hosted<br />

at Thomas Danby Campus.<br />

Representatives from businesses, which work alongside the <strong>College</strong> in<br />

areas including student placements and apprenticeships, were invited in<br />

to learn more about developments and successes specifically within the<br />

<strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hair</strong>.<br />

The event included a welcome from Head <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hair</strong> & <strong>Beauty</strong> Maxine<br />

Walker who thanked guests for their continued support and spoke about<br />

the importance <strong>of</strong> working in collaboration with industry representatives.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the latest <strong>College</strong> developments is the introduction <strong>of</strong> hairdressing<br />

apprenticeships, which has resulted in 15 apprentices being taken on in<br />

salons throughout <strong>Leeds</strong> and Bradford.<br />

The centrepiece <strong>of</strong> the evening was a hair show, highlighting the skills and<br />

talents <strong>of</strong> the campus’ Level 3 students as well as those students on the<br />

<strong>College</strong>’s media make-up course.<br />

The two groups worked together to create some amazing hairstyles and<br />

complementary make-up to the themes <strong>of</strong> Heaven & Hell and Fairytales.<br />

Programme Leader Mark Ramsden, who introduced the show, praised the<br />

students for all their hard work and achievements.<br />

Special awards were also given out to Student (Apprentice) <strong>of</strong> the Year<br />

Louise Moriarty and Salon <strong>of</strong> the Year which went to Yeadon-based <strong>Hair</strong><br />

La Mode and Salon owner Sean Birch for continued collaboration and<br />

shared planning with the <strong>College</strong>.
