Behind the scenes keeping it up and running.
Key Accomplishments in 2012:
• The Inventory Management Department was able to
surplus inventory at the Pine Chapel facility that
resulted in a reduction of inventory from $43,919.07 to
$13,008.27 in less than 4 months.
• The Fleet Asset Department assisted the Richmond
TOC by outfitting 22 trucks for their reinstated SSP
program.
• The Information Technology Department upgraded
the campus network infrastructure which has been a
key factor in assisting with the project to switch over
camera video from analog to digital.
The Inventory Management Department is
responsible for the tracking of HRTOC assets and
supplying members of HRTOC with the
equipment needed to complete their tasks. In
2012, Inventory supported multiple HRTOC
projects through the entry of thousands pieces
of equipment into the HRTOC asset database.
One project that required entry of new assets
into the database was the DMS Retrofit Project.
This two phase project, that was ongoing during
2012, involved the replacement of the internal
components of over 70 overhead message signs.
In addition to tracking the new equipment
associated with this project, Inventory provided
the storage solution at the Pine Chapel facility
for the existing functional components that
were removed from the signs. Inventory also
maintained 100% accuracy in all state and
federal audits during 2012.

The Fleet Asset Department is responsible for
providing safe and reliable vehicles for the
HRTOC SSP and maintenance departments as well
as pool vehicles, that are used by a variety of
employees at the HRTOC to attend meetings or
visit other local VDOT facilities. Due to the SSP
expansion which began at the end of 2011 and
continued throughout 2012, the number of SSP
vehicles in the fleet more than doubled between
the end of 2011 and the end of 2012. The
addition of new vehicles allowed older, high
mileage vehicles to be retired from the fleet.
This aided in the increase of SSP average vehicle
availability from 2011 to 2012. Pool vehicle
availability decreased from the previous year due
to one vehicle being out of service for an
extended period as a result of repairs that had to
be completed outside of the HRTOC.
The HRTOC fleet service technicians are able
to perform preventive maintenance vehicle
services and basic corrective maintenance.

oil changes, air and fuel filter changes and
transmission fluid and filter changes. To support
the increase in size of the SSP fleet a new service
technician was hired for the Pine Chapel facility
early in 2012.
