Hasnah has contributed much to bring the accounting program of Universiti<br />
Sains Malaysia to where it is now. The Bachelor of Accounting Program is a<br />
now a full-fledged professional degree accredited the Malaysian Institute of<br />
Accountants (MIA). The program also enjoys maximum exemption from the<br />
Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Institute of Management<br />
Accountant (CIMA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (AC<strong>CA</strong>),<br />
Certified Practicing Accountant of <strong>Australia</strong> (<strong>CPA</strong>) and the Malaysian Institute<br />
of Certified Public Accountants (MI<strong>CPA</strong>).<br />
Hasnah is a known figure amongst her colleagues in the accounting<br />
profession. She has been appointed a council of the Malaysian Institute of<br />
Accountants (MIA) as a representative of the academia. She is a Chartered<br />
member of the Institute of Internal Auditor Malaysia, a Professional Member of<br />
Certified Public Accountants, <strong>Australia</strong> and a Chartered Accountant of<br />
Malaysian Institute of Accountants. She has also been recently appointed as<br />
a member of the Commission of the newly set up Malaysian Competition<br />
Commission and a Board of Trustee of Yayasan Penyelidikan Antartika Sultan<br />
Mizan. She also sits in the Board of several companies.<br />
Hasnah was an executive member of Northern Branch of Malaysian Institute<br />
of Accountants for over 8 years before she was then appointed a Council<br />
Member of the Institution. She was also the member of the Ethics Assurance<br />
Board responsible for establishing standards on ethics for accountants in<br />

Malaysia, educate accountants on ethics through various methods and<br />
organize seminars to discuss relevant issues on ethics in Malaysia.<br />
She is a also a member of the Halatuju Accounting Committee set up by set<br />
up by the Ministry of Higher Education and MIA in shaping the curriculum of<br />
degree in accountancy for all Institutions of Higher learning in Malaysia. She<br />
has been appointed as keynote speakers of international Conferences and<br />
has been invited by United Nations University to speak on Mainstreaming<br />
Sustainable Consumption and Production in Academia in United Nations CSD<br />
18.<br />
As a member of Malaysian Competition Commission to protect the process of<br />
business competition in Malaysia, she has organised seminars and Forums to<br />
create awareness of the act to business and academia and as a result there is<br />
keen interest amongst the <strong>PhD</strong> students to research on the issue further. She<br />
has also assisted MyCC to conduct a study on internal corporate compliance<br />
programmes to promote the Competition Act 2010.<br />
Hasnah has published widely in both local and international journals. Her<br />
publications have appeared in International Journal of Auditing, International<br />
Journal of Management Perspectives, International Journal of Business and<br />
Management, International Journal of Economics and Accounting, Journal of<br />
Asian Academy Management Journal, Journal of Financial Reporting and<br />
Accounting and Managerial Auditing Journal. In the hope of sharing her<br />
findings with the practitioners, she has also published widely in the<br />
Professional Accountancy Journals, Malaysian Accountants, Accountants<br />
Today and Tax Nasional.<br />
In 2006, she was awarded a fellow member of the Institute of Internal Auditors<br />
for her outstanding contribution in promoting internal auditing in the field of<br />
Education. She has also been invited to present her views on role of<br />
universities in enhancing internal audit education.<br />
Hasnah’s area of research is in the field of Auditing, Corporate Governance,<br />
Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Service Quality, Accounting<br />
Education, and Business Competition Issues. Hasnah has been awarded<br />
research grants to do research in these areas, both internally and externally.<br />
She has won grants from international bodies in particular; <strong>CPA</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>,<br />
Institute of Internal Auditors, Japan Audit Research Association and<br />
Prospernet( Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and<br />
Research Network), United Nations . Locally, grants have been received from<br />
Malaysian Accountancy and Education Research Foundation(MAREF),<br />
Accounting Research Institute, Jabatan Penjara, Institute Integrity Malaysia<br />
and Malaysian Venture Capital Management (MAV<strong>CA</strong>P). She is also<br />
instrumental in obtaining a research grant from World Bank for <strong>USM</strong> to<br />
conduct a research on Competition Issues in Haulier Industry in Malaysia<br />
Hasnah has also published widely with the Emerald Group Publishing Limited,<br />
McGraw Hill, Prentice-Hall, Pearson Publication, Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka<br />
Penerbit <strong>USM</strong> and Institute Integrity Malaysia. Two of her books have been<br />

published in Japan by Zeimukeiri-Kyokai Company. Ltd and in UK by Social<br />
Responsibility Research Network. She has won awards from Emerald Group<br />
Publishing Limited for Outstanding Author Contribution and Highly<br />
Commendable Award and also from Malaysian Accountancy Research<br />
Education Foundation (MAREF) for the Best paper award and Outstanding<br />
Research Paper Award.<br />
She has co-authored a Handbook for Business Research Methods to discuss<br />
both quantitative and case method approach for business research and has<br />
co-authored the first Internal Audit book, Internal Audit Practices in Malaysia<br />
together with Internal Auditing lecturers. Her recent publication is on Issues in<br />
Audit Quality: Behavioural and Market Perspectives, a book funded by<br />
Malaysian Accountancy Research Education Foundation which compiles<br />
research done in Auditing. In line with Business Schools’ agenda to promote<br />
case study teaching in classes, she has co-authored books on case studies<br />
such as .Improving Performance and Enhancing Competitiveness with<br />
Penerbit <strong>USM</strong> and Case Studies for Integrated Case Study Course, published<br />
by MIA and Ministry of Higher Education.<br />
Hasnah has held several administrative positions throughout her more than<br />
25 years in <strong>USM</strong>. She has been Chairman of Accounting programme, Deputy<br />
Dean of Advanced Management Centre and former Dean of the Graduate<br />
Business School . She has graduated more than 25 research students and<br />
has been appointed as Editorial Board Members of both local and<br />
International Journals.<br />
