University Entrance
Students are qualified for entrance to a university in New Zealand when they have obtained:
• a minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework.
At least 14 of these credits must come from ech of two subjects on an approved subject
listand another 14 credits must come from no more than two additional approved
subjects (see list below) or domains.on the National Qualifications framework.
• a minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau on the
National Qualifications Framework
• a minimum of 8 credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Māori; 4 credits must
be in Reading and 4 credits must be in Writing. The literacy credits will be selected from
a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards.
An example could be Level 3 English 14 credits; Level 3 History 14 credits and Level 3
Economics 14 credits. Plus 14 credits at Level 1 Mathematics.
Approved Subjects
Approved subjects are the normal school subjects. Most of the Year 13 subjects at
Whangaparaoa College are on the approved subject list. (see below)
