Did you know that… * FHS will administer Semester Exams before winter break this December? Friday 12/17, Monday 12/20, and Tuesday 12/21. Save the dates! * Last Spring Brian Jennings qualified for the State track meet in the shot put? Also, Fairborn City Schools finished with 75 points for the “All Sports Trophy;” which was our highest point total while being a member of the GWOC. * Victoria Brown, Paige Barker, Selina Thomas, Samantha Barnett, Logan Snow, Andy Vance, Caleb Savage, and Cameron Elliott sang in the Mad River Vocal Arts Festival at Wright State University on October 11th at the Creative Arts Center? through the grade levels. Please consider these facts. Nearly half of the incoming freshman class this year will be the first in their family to attend college. However, less than half of these students will earn their diploma. Ohio ranks 32nd in the nation with only 34% of our residents holding a college degree. Fairborn Primary, Fairborn Intermediate, and Baker Middle School have already had colleges and universities “adopt” classrooms to support the notion that “college-readiness” is everyone’s goal. And speaking of making sure that our kids are college ready before graduating from high school, kudos to our high school guidance office for encouraging our high school and middle school students to take the PSAT/NMSQT exam in October. For juniors, this is the one and only chance they have to have their scores compared to other juniors across the country and to compete for National Merit Scholarships. For freshman and sophomores and middle school students, this is their opportunity to take the real exam as a practice leading up to their junior year. We encourage students to participate. Fairborn City Schools Honors FHS Leaders On the first day of the 2010-2011 school year for certified and classified staff, Superintendant Scarberry, Central Office Administrators, and Building Principals announced the recipients of the Employee of the Year Awards. We are proud to share that two of the recognized leaders serve Fairborn High School. * Intervention Specialist Mrs. Karen Peck took part in the ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Walk in September ? She walked and collected donations in memory of her brother-in-law. Do you have change for a $50-bill? Our cafeteria and finance office do not have the ability to make change when students pay with denominations larger than a twenty-dollar bill. Please keep this in mind when sending students to school with fee money or lunch money. It is also not safe for students to be carrying large amounts of cash on their person. Each of the offices will accept $50.00- and $100.00-bills as long as the students wish to put the entire amount toward their fee or lunch accounts. Page 5 of 15
