Françoise & Jean-Pierre Mattelaer tied the knot on 8 July 2011
and requested that the gifts be donated to BIA. What a wonderful
gesture. With this our tertiary students are one step closer to their
dreams. Thank you so much.
Another special event of the de UNEXPO-Holland was organized
by the students of the Maaswaal College under the leadership of
Chantal & Bram Verwije - Van Summeren. The huge expo raised
an amazing amount of almost € 20 000. This donation will be used
in aid of Homework centre and Tertiary project. The Born in Africa
team are truly in awe with this incredible donation.
Beatrice Verstraeten of Wetteren recently celebrated her 65th
birthday. The party goers donated all the gifts to BIA. Thanks Beatrice
for your kindness and a Happy Birthday from the BIA team!
Rotary Club Düsseldorf (Rotary Gemeindienst Deutschland) donated
a wonderful amount of 8000 Euros towards the school fees
of the Wittedrift High students. What an amazing act of kindness of
the club. The students were overjoyed knowing that this had been
taken care of.
Godparents Marie-Flore Maenhout & Jean-Paul De Cordier collected
more than € 3000 for BIA. This incredible amount will be
donated towards their godchild’s studies, BIA dental work and the
BIA reading glasses project. Thank you to Dank U Marie-Flore &
Jean-Paul, friends, the architect guild and the Kiwanis Club from
Oudenaarde.
To those of you who did not take part in this event, really missed
out! On 28 June 2011, Lieve & Remi De Backer and their golf
club Oudenaarde arranged a golf day in benefit of BIA. The 110
participants raised more than €1500. What a magnificent succes.
Also on 21 & 22 May, a lot of golf was played during
the Flanders Nippon Golf day for the Captains
prize at Hasselt. Godparents L. Scheepers and his
wife, the captain and the vice chairman of the club
announced that €750 to be donated towards BIA.
Soccer for Born in Africa! This was the motto of the soccer tournament
organized by Brucago where 22 soccer clubs of various
firms took part. This all, thanks to Bjorn De Nil. BIA chairman
George De Smul very proudly collected the cheque of €4000. What
an fantastic initiative. Many thanks!
The pupils of Sint-Jan-Berchmansinstituut have also been very
busy. They collected a magnificent amount of € 2350 for BIA. A
warm thank you to the students, what a wonderful achievement.
The students of the Leielandscholen were just as diligent by collecting
€ 750 towards the BIA project.
This year Hilde De Baets, Jan, Sofie, Joris and other hardworking
folk worked tirelessly during the flea market at Veldseke.
The € 1375 raised there was donated towards the BIA tertiary study
program. What a dynamic team. Excellent!

Their hard work ensured a beautiful amount of
€1406 raised.

Fantastic people! Amazing babies
Two recently born babies- Vic Matton
& Briek Peusens- already mean a lot
to Born in Africa. Proud parents of
Briek - Lieve & Peter Peusens-Platteau
and Sophie & Rogier Matton, parents
of Vic, decided to donate all their baby
gifts to the Born in Africa program.
Already these babies have crept in the hearts of the BIA children.

Isabelle receives a price!
Isabelle De Smul-Brink, coordinator of BIA in South Africa
received the De Visser-Neerlandia prize for her achievements
in the development sector!
The “Algemeen Nederlands verbond” would like to honor her
work for the projects she established in South Africa. A major
factor is that Born in Africa are assisting Afrikaans speaking
children with the organization supporting this language in
particular. The awareness which she has created in schools
in Holland and Belgium is also commendable and this has
leaded directly to sponsorship from various European
schools and other organizations. This has ensured € 5.000
towards BIA.
Isabelle, we are truly proud of you. Keep up the good work!

Plans for the rest of the year?
Yes, have a look at what we have up our sleeves:
Our Lieve en Remi De Backer, BIA godparents, board members
and chairman BIA South Africa are celebrating their 40th
wedding anniversary! This they will do this in the company of
family and friends in September. All donations will go towards the
building of a new house for their godchild Ragné. What an incredible
gesture.
A golf tournament will take place on 16 September 2011 in
Aartselaar (Cleydael CC) to the benefit of BIA. Please contact
Stephan Du Bois (stedu@hotmail.com) should you wish to participate.
Great prizes up for grabs!
Godparent Ronny Verdievel will organize a huge celebration on
24 September as it is his birthday. He has requested that all gifts
should be donated towards BIA. A Man with a big heart!
Folks, keep 4 September 2011 free as BIA is organizing a
summer picnic in Lebbeke. All godparents, BIA friends and
donors are welcome. There you will be able to meet BIA volunteers,
board members of BIA and the BIA family. Part of
the program will include folk dancing, hiking and wine tasting.
