HARDEE CAMPUS<br />

During the <strong>2011</strong>-<strong>12</strong> academic year, Hardee<br />

Campus staff tutored and advised<br />

students in the TRiO Student Support<br />

Services program, which assists eligible firstgeneration<br />

college students. They worked<br />

closely with the college’s orientation and Guide<br />

to Personal Success (GPS) first-year learning<br />

experience committees to develop orientation<br />

sessions and schedule GPS classes for the 20<strong>12</strong>-13<br />

academic year.<br />

In spring 20<strong>12</strong>, the second class of the<br />

18-month Transition-Licensed Practical Nurse<br />

(LPN) to Registered Nurse (RN) began at the<br />

campus.<br />

The campus hosted the Go Higher event, in<br />

which staff helped prospective students complete<br />

college and financial aid applications.<br />

The <strong>College</strong> Reach-Out Program (CROP),<br />

for eighth grade students, began its fifth year<br />

at Hardee Junior High School. Each month,<br />

CROP students attended Super Saturdays, which<br />

emphasized public speaking, preparing for<br />

the FCAT, increasing knowledge of vocabulary<br />

and mathematics, building self-esteem, and<br />

exploring careers. A one-week summer program<br />

prepared CROP students for their transition<br />

to Hardee High School by focusing on time<br />

management, career assessment, and reading<br />

enhancement.<br />

Campus staff represented the college at<br />

the <strong>College</strong> for a Day program for Hardee High<br />

School students, the Community Awareness/<br />

Back to School event, and Friday Night Live in<br />

downtown Wauchula. They took Leadership<br />

Hardee participants on a tour of the campus<br />

and made a presentation to them about campus<br />

activities.<br />

The Hardee Campus Panther Ambassadors, a<br />

student organization, participated in Community<br />

As a community service project,<br />

the Hardee Campus Panther<br />

Ambassadors collected turkeys for<br />

their annual Thanksgiving food drive.<br />

<strong>College</strong> Week, Fall Festival, and community<br />

service projects. These included working with<br />

exceptional education students at Bowling<br />

Green Elementary School and Redlands<br />

Christian Migrant Association (RCMA).<br />

The Hardee Campus is the college’s<br />

training location for the Electrical Lineman<br />

apprenticeship program through the Peace River<br />

Electric Cooperative (PRECO). The college’s<br />

miner training and recertification training are<br />

offered to phosphate industry vendors through<br />

the Hardee Campus. During the academic<br />

year, the campus also provided businessrelated<br />

training to the Hardee County Sheriff’s<br />

Office, the Hardee County Fire Department,<br />

and RCMA. Goodwill and Vocational and<br />

Rehabilitative Services conducted client<br />

evaluations at the campus.<br />

The campus was the meeting location for<br />

the Hardee Athletic Foundation, the Hardee<br />

County Fair Board, Hardee Youth Football, and<br />

the Heartland Workforce executive board and<br />

was the site for Hardee Senior High’s Advanced<br />

Placement Examinations.<br />
