her NISOD award for providing<br />

leadership during the development of<br />

the academic foundations program for<br />

students who require developmental<br />

reading, writing, and mathematics<br />

class.<br />

Dr. Michele<br />

Heston, director,<br />

Nursing Education,<br />

earned the<br />

designation<br />

Certified Nurse<br />

Educator (CNE)<br />

in 20<strong>12</strong> after<br />

completing<br />

a rigorous<br />

certification examination administered<br />

by the National League for Nursing.<br />

The certification establishes nursing<br />

education as a specialty area of<br />

practice and creates a means for<br />

faculty to demonstrate their expertise<br />

in this role. It communicates to<br />

students, peers, and the academic<br />

and health care communities that the<br />

highest standards of excellence are<br />

being met within a program.<br />

Mollie Doctrow, curator of the<br />

SFSC Museum of <strong>Florida</strong> Art and<br />

Culture (MOFAC), received an Award<br />

of Excellence during the Lake Wales<br />

Art Show for her black and white<br />

woodcut prints featuring endemic,<br />

rare, and endangered plants that<br />

grow in <strong>Florida</strong>’s native habitats. The<br />

Crealde School of Art exhibited a<br />

selection of her woodcut prints in May<br />

20<strong>12</strong>.<br />

Dawn Pisarski, professor of<br />

nursing, received the Samaritan’s<br />

Touch Care Center Hero Award for her<br />

volunteer work as a nurse practitioner<br />

at the center.<br />

During the college’s annual<br />

Awards Day ceremony, SFSC students<br />

chose Dr. Brian Deery as the 20<strong>12</strong><br />

Full-time Faculty of the Year and<br />

Jim Houseknecht as Adjunct Faculty<br />

of the Year for the Division of Arts<br />

and Sciences. Dr. Cherie Stevens was<br />

chosen Full-time Faculty of the Year<br />

and Lisa McConnell as Adjunct Faculty<br />

of the Year for Applied Sciences and<br />

Technologies. Nelly Ford and Janet<br />

Tooley tied as Instructor of the Year for<br />

Adult Education.<br />
