means that you need to be ordinarily resident in the UK for three years and have settled
status in the UK (ie. you are not on a student or working visa).
4. Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure
Nursing is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. This means that
you must declare any previous criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings, even if
they are spent, as a condition of admission onto the course. Having a previous criminal
conviction or caution will not necessarily prevent you from studying to be a nurse. However, to
be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council you need to be ‘of good character’ and it
is the responsibility of the University to ensure that, should you be offered and accept a place,

you will be able to register and be employed as a nurse in the future. We may be unable to
make you an offer if you have certain convictions such as actual bodily harm, fraud or drugrelated
convictions.
organise a Criminal Records Bureau check, for which you will be asked to also complete the
relevant Criminal Records Bureau form. Failure to disclose anything that appears on your
CRB check may result in your withdrawal from the course. Please include all incidents relating
