DPCCE DPCCE comprise of: • Polytechnic Management Sector, • Community College Management Sector, • Policy Development Division, • Curriculum Development & Evaluation Division, • Training & Career Division, • Industry Liaison Division, • Graduate Tracking and Alumni Division, • Research and Development Centre, • Service Management Division, Currently, DPCCE manages 27 polytechnics and 42 community colleges as well as 21 community college branches which conduct various study and training programmes in the areas of engineering, commerce and services. DPCCE’s MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS … at a glance (September 2008 to September 2009) Recognition • MS ISO 9001:2000 certification awarded by Lloyds Register on 7 May 2008 for the scope of Design, Development, Review And Monitoring Of Curriculum For Education Programmes At Polytechnics And Community Colleges. The validity period for the certification is from May 2008 to May 2011 Collaborations • Urban Hard Poverty Eradication in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance involving 600 participants from May to October 2008. • Collaboration with The Malaysian Science University (USM) through USains Holdings in article writing skills consultation. (August – December 2008) • MoU between DPCCE and UniKL in education and technical training. (17 December 2008) • MoU between DPCCE and NGV TECH Sdn. Bhd. in engineering. (6 February 2009) • MoU between DPPCE and Malaysian Association of Hotels-Kedah/Perlis Chapter in hotel and catering. (16 February 2009) • MoA between DPCCE and Siemens (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Programme was held on the 7 th April 2009. • Collaboration programme between Government of Bhutan and DPCCE was held from 6 th – 17 th Julai 2009. 22 participants were trained in the area of Industrial Welding and Electronic Fuel Injection System. 6
Seminars and Conferences • Industry Dialogue 2008 with the theme “ Industry-Education Collaboration for Sustainable Workforce Development-Meeting the Challenges” on 14th October 2008 in Putrajaya International Convention Centre • Three separate seminars on Logistics and Supply Chain Management were held in Kuantan, Klang dan Seberang Perai from 21 st – 23 rd April 2009. • 1st Professional Tea Talk was held at the DPCCE headquarters on the 24 th April 2009. Topics discussed were “Lean Manufacturing” and “Rapid Manufacturing’ by Mr John Cawley from Victoria University, Australia. • 2nd Professional Tea Talk was held at Politeknik Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah on the 24 th June 2009. The talk was delivered by three professors from Liverpool John Moores University, Professor Diane Meehan, Professor Emil Levi and Professor J.F Zhang. Topics discussed were “Multiphase Motor Drive Research’ and “Microelectronic Devices : The past, the challenges and the future”. th • Industry Luncheon for West Malaysia was held on the 13 August 2009 at Four Points by Sheraton in Kuching, Sarawak. The luncheon was attended by 51 representatives from 39 industries in Sarawak and Sabah. th • National Industry Dialogue 2009 was held on 6 October 2009 with the theme Workforce Development in a Changing Market by Engaging Industries at Putrajaya International Convention Centre. The dialogue was attended by 207 participants with 83 representatives from 56 agencies, associations and public listed companies from the industry together with senior officers from the Ministry of Higher Education, polytechnics and community colleges DPCCE Research/Study • A research project funded by The Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) titled “The Future Context and Shape of Leadership, Governance and Management in Malaysian Higher Education Institutions Focusing on Polytechnics and Community Colleges”. The proposal for this research is one of the 9 chosen out of 60 proposals. • A research project funded by the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) led by UKM titled: “The Status of Teaching and Learning Practices in Problem-Based Learning at Polytechnics”. • A Longitudinal Study on the implementation of Work-Based Learning programmes at Community Colleges. • A Comparative Study on Air Conditioning and Automotive programmes at Polytechnics and Community Colleges. • A Comparative Study on diploma and certificate programmes offered by Higher Education Providers in Malaysia. 7
