Just days prior to the <strong>Utah</strong><br />
State Road Race Championships<br />
in Herriman, the distances for<br />
the Men’s Category 1-2 and<br />
Category 3 races were<br />
increased. This generated a fair<br />
amount of email activity following<br />
one racer’s complaint that<br />
this would turn the race into one<br />
of attrition. He was right,<br />
though most responding had no<br />
problem with that. Indeed, most<br />
recognized that attrition is an<br />
integral part of many road<br />
events.<br />
In both races, the gentle but<br />
deceptively draining slope from<br />
the start/finish line of the 9 mile<br />
race loop to the base of the short<br />
but steep climb at the mid-point<br />
of the loop, plus the fatigue,<br />
heat and dry summer wind,<br />
worked the riders over enough<br />
that the push over the climb nar-<br />
