National Outdoors was f ortunate enough to get a hold of the highly -anticipated<br />
<strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Khakis</strong> <strong>Snake</strong> Riv er Conv ertible <strong>Pant</strong>. <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Khakis</strong> is releasing the<br />
<strong>Snake</strong> Riv er Sy nthetic Collection next spring. This collection will f eature a 100%<br />
ny lon lightweight, technical, and quick-dry f abric, that is UVA/UVB 50+. I'v e worn<br />
these pants on a v ariety of outings including: hiking, camping, f ishing and bouldering.<br />
The <strong>Snake</strong> Riv er f abric is much more f lexible and easier to maneuv er in than the<br />
Original <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Khakis</strong> pant. Although these pants are lightweight, the f abric is heav y enough to<br />
av oid snags while bushwhacking and durable enough to av oid abrasion while scrambling ov er rocks.<br />

get the benef it of shorts and pants. In the picture, I'm hiking in the redrock country outside<br />
Cany onlands National Park. The morning was cold, and I had the legs zipped onto the pants. As the<br />
day warmed up, I shed the legs within a f ew seconds.<br />

You can't keep the <strong>Snake</strong> Riv er Conv ertible <strong>Pant</strong> away f rom the riv er. The pants hav e a cargo<br />
pocket on the lef t leg that f its a medium sized f ly box perf ectly . They also dry v ery quick if y ou get<br />
them wet (see my test below). I also wore them comf ortably beneath my waders.<br />

A loose f it in the legs and ny lon material allows f or a mobile pant. The pants don't get hung up on<br />
y our thighs when y our climbing. The f ront pockets of the pant expand so y ou can hav e items in y our<br />
pockets and still hav e mobility .<br />

As y ou can see, these pants are soaked! Within 20 minutes of submersion, they were damp y et<br />
comf ortable. Af ter an hour they were completely dry . Af ter dry ing, the f abric stif f ened up, but then<br />
sof tened once I began walking around.<br />

<strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Khakis</strong> wisely used the bomber YKK Zippers on the zipper pockets and pant legs. These<br />
zippers can take a beating and hold up ov er time. The pants legs are also v ery easy to attach back<br />
on the shorts because the zipper has a large slider and pin. Notice the triple stitching on all the<br />
seams. The sample I receiv ed was a little tight in the waist, so I put these seams to the test.<br />
Reinforced <strong>Pant</strong> Cuff<br />
Like all <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Khakis</strong> pants, the rear cuf f is doubled ov er f or added wear. I call it the "mud f lap".<br />
The <strong>Snake</strong> Riv er Conv ertible <strong>Pant</strong>s are a great all round pant. You can get one pair and hav e the<br />
v ersatility of pants or shorts. Trav el in them, get them dirty , wash them in a sink (or riv er), hav e a<br />
cold one while they dry and head out f or a nice dinner.<br />
