<strong>Mantas</strong> <strong>Coaches</strong> 2013 Summer<br />

Sean Nugent<br />

Sean started swimming with <strong>Mantas</strong> as a child and now competes at international level. He won<br />

a silver medal for Canada in the 200 breast at the British Grand Prix in 2011 and represented<br />

Canada at World Cup Stockholm and Berlin in 2012. Sean was qualified multiple times for the<br />

FINA’s A Olympic qualifying time.<br />

Ciaran McDonnell<br />

Ciaran has been involved with BCSSA for the last 13 years. He started swimming with the<br />

Coquitlam sharks at the age of 7 and continued to swim for the sharks for 4 years. In this<br />

time he has competed at regionals and provincials, winning many medals and meet records.<br />

He then wanted to further his swimming career and moved to Simon Fraser Aquatics where<br />

he has been for the last 10 years. In which he has been able to win medals at western<br />

Canadian championships as well as nationals. In the winter of 2010 he was invited to travel<br />

to Montreal and train for a week with the best butterfliers in Canada. He has won multiple<br />

NAIA All- American honors and captured school records since he began swimming at Simon<br />

Fraser University. He will be heading into his senior season with SFU in the fall. He is<br />

currently studying Health Sciences. He has coached for 5 years with Coquitlam sharks and<br />

<strong>Burnaby</strong> barracudas and has had many swimmers win and break records at provincials. I<br />

am looking forward to a successful and fun year with the mantas!<br />

Adam Kautz<br />

Adam has been part of the Simon Fraser University varsity swim team for the past 5 years.<br />

He has been swimming nationally since the age of 18, with standards in 200 free, 400 free,<br />

and 200 fly. His individual best placing at Canadian nationals is top 16. He became a<br />

Canadian national champion in 2009 as part of a 4x200 freestyle relay at the Canadian<br />

World Trials in Montreal. When competing for SFU, he reached All American status and<br />

became an NAIA National Champion in 2010 when he was a part of a 4x50 freestyle relay<br />

with David Hibberd.<br />

David Hibberd<br />

David has swam for SFU for the past 6 years, won SFU athlete of the year in 2011, and was<br />

selected to represent Canada at the 2011 World university games following a 4th place<br />

finish at world championship trials in the 50 and 100m freestyle. Set NAIA records in 100,<br />

200 freestyle and 200 IM.<br />

Jessica Lui<br />

Jessica is a student at Simon Fraser University. She has been swimming with <strong>Burnaby</strong><br />

<strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Mantas</strong> for the past eleven years and has participated in many meets including<br />

eleven Regional meets and eleven Provincial meets. This is her fourth year coaching with<br />

the <strong>Mantas</strong>.

Ron Lau<br />

Ron has just completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Queen's University. He started<br />

swimming competitively with the <strong>Mantas</strong> in the year 2000 and joined year-round swimming<br />

with SFA in 2005. He swam with the SFA until 2008 and achieved his goal to swim at Age-group<br />

nationals along the way. When Ron arrived at University, he wanted to try something new and<br />

joined the Varsity Waterpolo Team, being a part of it for 3 years. This is Ron's 5th summer<br />

coaching with the <strong>Mantas</strong>.<br />

Vincent Chung<br />

Vincent has been swimming since he was 3 years old spending the last 10 years with BMM.<br />

Over many summer seasons Vincent has accomplished a number of provincial podium<br />

finishes for various relays and individual events, most notably a provincial gold for div4 50<br />

fly in 2007. Outside of the <strong>Mantas</strong> Vincent had been involved with the <strong>Burnaby</strong> North swim<br />

team and was part of the managing and coaching team for the two years 2009-2010. This is<br />

his third year of coaching with <strong>Mantas</strong>.<br />

Mabel Ng<br />

Mabel has been swimming with the <strong>Burnaby</strong> <strong>Mountain</strong> <strong>Mantas</strong> Summer <strong>Swim</strong> <strong>Club</strong> since the<br />

age of six. This is her fourth summer as a coach as she really enjoys working with the<br />

younger swimmers. Being a junior coach, Mabel treasures the chance to share her love of<br />

swimming with the younger group of swimmers in our club. The more the kids love<br />

swimming, the more her enthusiasm for swimming grows. Throughout her swimming<br />

career, Mabel has participated in countless regular meets, Regional meets and Provincial<br />

meets. Mabel is really looking forward to yet another fun-packed summer with everyone!

Sisi Zhou<br />

Sisi is currently studying International Relations at the University of British Columbia. She<br />

has been swimming since the age of 10 but start with the <strong>Mantas</strong> in 2008. She has competed<br />

at numerous meets including five regionals and two provincial meets. This is her first year<br />

coaching with the <strong>Mantas</strong> but was a volunteer coach for two year prior in addition to<br />

coaching the <strong>Burnaby</strong> North <strong>Swim</strong> Team in 2012. She is looking forward to a fun filled<br />

summer with all the swimmers!<br />

Junjay Liu<br />

Junjay has been swimming with <strong>Mantas</strong> for seven years and was qualified for BCSSA<br />

Provincial Championships for many times. Junjay started coaching mini-<strong>Mantas</strong> last year.<br />

Bryan Cheung<br />

Bryan has been swimming with the <strong>Mantas</strong> for 10 years, and started when he was 6 years<br />

old. He has been to many meets, including multiple regional meets and 3 provincial meets.<br />

He is in Grade 11, and has also swum for 4 years on the <strong>Burnaby</strong> North <strong>Swim</strong> Team. He<br />

started coaching for the <strong>Mantas</strong> during the winter season.
