Services
The AREVA NP Environmental Laboratory (E-LAB), located in Westborough, Mass., is
a nationally recognized, full service, radio-analytical laboratory that has been providing
superior services to the U.S. nuclear industry since the 1970s.
Since its inception, the E-LAB has worked closely with nuclear plants to provide timely and
accurate analytical results and cost-effective solutions. The E-LAB’s current client base
includes several nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.

E-LAB services have been developed and refined to provide precise, high-quality analytical
measurements that meet all regulatory and client requirements for:
• Turn-key Radiological Environmental Monitoring Program (REMP)
• REMP Program oversight and Annual Radiological Environmental Operating Report
(AREOR) preparation
• Direct and indirect bioassay
• Plant effluent (10CFR Part 50)
• Radioactive waste (10CFR Part 61)
• Radioactive source preparation
• NVLAP accredited personnel dosimetry (NVLAP Code 100524-0)
• Area, environmental, and ISFSI dosimetry
• Groundwater characterization
• Meteorological services
Quality Assurance
The E-LAB maintains one of the best laboratory quality assurance programs in the United
States and meets or exceeds the requirements of NRC Regulatory Guide 4.15, ANSI/ASME
NQA-1, and ANSI Standard 42.23 entitled, “Measurement Quality Assurance Program for
Radioassay Laboratories.”
AREVA NP recognizes the importance of maintaining an effective Quality Assurance
Program (QAP) that ensures high quality services to clients. A full-time Quality Assurance
Officer provides oversight of all laboratory work. The E-LAB QAP is an augmented quality
assurance program that is consistent with and conforms to the 10CFR Part 50, Appendix B
related quality assurance requirements that are applicable to the radio-analytical laboratory.
Experience
E-LAB staff includes highly trained and experienced individuals. For example, the
Technical Director holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Radiochemistry and has more than 20 years of
experience at the facility.
Based on their experience and understanding of client requirements, our scientists and
technicians continue providing timely and accurate results. Since its inception, the E-LAB
has processed more than 240,000 environmental samples and 24,000 Part 50/61 samples.
