Approximate distance between marinas and marinas to dam.
RESORT REFERENCE GUIDE
1. Your houseboat is designed for comfort, not speed. A reasonable cruising speed is
3000-3500 RPM’s or about ¾ throttle. At this speed, you will use about 6-8 gallons
of gas per hour.
Boat Type
Estimated MPH
Houseboat 9-10 mph
2. When under way, stay safe distances from the shore, especially when operating in a cove.
This will insure deep-water operation and help provide protection t against striking underwater
logs, rocks or other obstacles that might damage the boat, motor or prop. Also, be aware of
overhanging tree limbs, which might damage the boat, rails, antennas or canopy tops.
REMEMBER- You are responsible for damage to the boat.
3. Parts of the lake are marked as “NO WAKE” areas. This means you must operate the boat at
idle speed only. Violation of No Wake areas could result in a citation from the Tennessee State
Water Patrol.
4. Your boat steers from the rear, not the front like a vehicle. Steering the boat to the right turns
the front to the right, as well as the rear to the left. Likewise, when you turn the steering wheel
left, the front turns left, and the rear turns right. When traveling from one point to another,
keep a spot in the distance “eye-balled” and turn the wheel in small increments; avoiding over
steering and creating an :S: down the lake.
5. Because the boat turns from the rear, always back out of areas where maneuvering is
restricted. DRIVE STRAIGHT IN, BACK STRAIGHT OUT. When backing out, remember to give
yourself at least TWO boat lengths before turning and moving forward.
6. Our personnel will assist you when you would like to enter the harbor or when returning from
your trip. When you are ready to return to the marina, either for supplies or at the end of your
journey, call the marina on your marine band radio to receive instructions. Please remain in the
No Wake area and wait for a pilot to drive you into the harbor.
7. If you have rented two or more boats, DO NOT drive with them tied together. If you wish to tie
together once you reach your destination, tie cleat to cleat. Never tie to the rails, as this could
cause damage to the rails, which you will be responsible for.
8. When pulling a small boat with you, such as a runabout or fishing boat, DO NOT tie to the side
of the boat. Always pull your small boat at the rear of the houseboat, using at least a 30 ft. rope
and tie to the rear cleat, not the rails.
9. When under way, keep the swim ladder in the upright position.
10. In the event you get caught in a storm or high winds, go to the nearest cove. If the wind is strong,
drive into the wind while you work your way to the cove.
4

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDE
C: ANCHORING
1. All houseboats should be securely moored at least one hour before sunset.
2. Your boat is equipped with four (4) 100 ft. mooring lines, of which you are responsible for their
return. Coves provide the best over night anchoring. They are a natural barrier from the
weather and night traffic.
3. Always tie to cleats, not the rails.
4. We recommend looping your rope around a tree or other object twice before tying. This helps
make the knot easier to untie. DO NOT cut the rope from the boat and leave it. You will be
responsible for lost rope.
5. DO NOT ANCHOR IN THE MAIN CHANNEL. Night traffic can be heavy on the lake!
6. When mooring, it is best to take refuge in a secluded cove. Take the bow of the boat close to
shore and secure front mooring line to a solid object, such as a tree. Then, making sure there are
no individuals or objects behind you, back the boat from the front shore and secure the rear
mooring line to the opposite bank. This method works when you have a small boat or would like
to swim to the opposite bank and tie off. When a small boat is unavailable, find a shallow bank to
pull forward on. Take both mooring lines and secure to the front or rear cleats on opposite sides.
Then take the lines and secure forward to solid objects.
D: EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION
1. We feel that we offer the finest in service and maintenance possible. Inevitably, problems do
arise. Therefore, should you experience any difficulty, we ask for your understanding in the
knowledge that our staff will do everything possible to correct the problem with the least
amount of inconvenience or interruption possible on your trip.
2. If a problem should arise, first consult the troubleshooting section of this book before calling the
marina. If you cannot correct the problem yourself, call the marina. You can first call on the
marine band radio (12). If you are out of range, you can reach the Ship Store @ (931) 243-2116.
A service boat will be dispatched as soon as possible. If the problem occurs after dark, we ask
your patience until morning. Service boats are not dispatched on the lake after dark. We will do
our best to have you up and running as quickly as possible.
3. The most common difficulty is a flooded motor, which usually leads to a dead battery. If the
motor is flooded, wait 5 minutes before trying to start the motor again
5

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDE
E: SAFETY TIPS
1. The captain is responsible for all members of the crew, as well as the boat. Please do not let
horseplay or drinking get out of hand. Diving off the top of the houseboat should be discouraged,
as well as diving near the shore. All persons should wear some type of Coast Guard approved
personal floatation device when in the water. We also recommend that all children and
non-swimmers wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket at all times, not only on the boat, but
also anywhere around the water, which includes the marina docks.
2. Climb up and down the ladder with chest facing the ladder. Be aware the ladder may be slick
from water and suntan oils.
3. NEVER go outside the top deck railing at anytime. This includes the front platform over the lower
deck. The area beyond the fly bridge tends to be very slippery. Sitting outside the rails is not
permitted.
4. Make sure everyone is out of the water before starting your motor. ALWAYS TAKE A HEAD
COUNT BEFORE STARTING THE MOTOR.
5. Fireworks are NOT permitted on the houseboat.
F: SAFETY EQUIPMENT
1. Your houseboat is equipped with 12 Coast Guard approved life jackets. These are not for
swimming, but for emergencies. Your boat is equipped with adult size life jackets; however,
we will be happy to exchange any of these for a child’s size as needed. LIFE JACKETS ARE NOT
TO BE USED AS BOAT BUMPERS!!!
2. Your boat is equipped with 3 fire extinguishers. Be familiar with their location and operation.
3. The horn can be used to warn other boats of your presence. When backing up, sound the
horn twice.
G: WATER SLIDE
1. Turn engine and generator off before using the slide!
2. Life jacket must be worn when using the slide.
3. Before using the slide, pour a bucket of water down the slide or turn the slide pump on for ease
of sliding.
4. NEVER use the slide in shallow water, or within 20 ft. of shore.
5. Adult supervision is necessary when children are using the slide.
6

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDE
H: MARINE BAND RADIO
1. Your houseboat is equipped with a marine band radio. Holly Creek Resort monitors
channel 21.
NOTE: If you are out of range of Holly Creek, you may contact another marina to relay a
message. See Section III for a list of channels for other Marinas.
2. Channel 16 is an emergency channel. Use an alternate channel besides 16 and 12 for private
conversations.
3. To make a call on the Marine Band Radio:
a. Push in firmly on the “push to talk” button on the side of the hand microphone to transmit.
b. To call Holly Creek, state “Bigfoot 2 boat calling Holly Creek Resort.”
c. Release the button to hear a reply. You CANNOT hear a reply unless the “push to talk”
button is released.
d. Refer to “Controls and Indicators” below for radio specifications.
4. Low power is used in the harbor only. High power is used outside the harbor. Make sure the
high power button is on once you leave the harbor.
5. The red light indicates “push to talk” button is depressed.
6. Do not pull on microphone cord while transmitting.
7. If travel is more than 5 miles, you may experience interference using the marine radio.
8. Channel 1 is a 24-hour weather channel.
Controls and Indicators
1. UP/DWN Channel Selectors-- These controls are used to select the desired communication
channel
2. LED Panel—Indicators for Channel Number, 16, INT, IW and TX
3. SQ (Squelch)—Eliminates the background noise when no signal is being received
4. Push-to-talk (PTT) Switch—Press to transmit and release to receive
5. CH16—Controls access to instant Channel 16 communications
6. INT (USA/International)—Switches operation between US and International Channels
7. 1W/25W (TX Output)—Controls transmitters output power
8. VOL (On/Off Volume)—Turns the MC535 power on or off and adjusts the volume
A: GENERATOR
The generator is located near the rear of the boat; therefore the back of the boat should be away from
the shore, seaweed, mud or leaves that may clog up the generator. Before starting the generator, run
the blower 2-4 minutes. This will clear the hull of any fumes. Make sure all AC switches are turned off
and the transfer switch is turned to the OFF position. Flip the RUN/STOP switch to RUN. Hold the ON
switch for 2-3 seconds, and then press the start switch while still holding the ON switch down. Hold
the start button down only long enough for the engine to start. An amber light will glow indicating the
generator is running. After the generator starts, hold the ON switch for one more second. Allow
generator to run about 5 minutes to warm up before turning switch to GEN. To turn on AC power, see
section below titled "Power Supply." Turn the engine off by flipping the RUN/STOP switch to the
STOP position.
Reasons the generator might not start:

B: CO DETECTORS
1. Your boat is equipped with carbon monoxide detectors throughout the boat. These are to
protect you from the dangers of this deadly gas, which is discharged by the generator.
2. While your generator is in use, have all doors and windows closed. Also make sure no one in
your party swims or lounges near the back or sides of the houseboat, as they are exposed to
the gas and will not notice. CO is an odorless gas and therefore on can be poisoned without
knowledge of it.
3. Do not unplug your CO detectors. In the event that one should go off, IMMEDIATELY shut the
generator off, open all windows and doors and call the marina for someone to come check your
boat.
9

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDE
C: LIGHTS
This boat is designed with two types of lights; battery powered and electrical lights. AC lights must
have the generator running and the transfer switch turned to generator. If running AC lights all the
time, be sure the DC switches are turned off. The DC lights will drain the battery. The generator
should be run at least 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening. Turn all 12 volt lights, pumps
and accessories off while not in use to avoid draining 12 volt batteries.
Reasons the lights might not work:

D: WATER
This boat is equipped with two types of water. The first is drinking water, which is located at the

faucets at the bathroom sinks. To get drinking water you must go to the panel board and turn on the
fresh water switch as well as the lake water switch. The fresh water switch needs to be on all the
time for the icemaker. The water system has two 130 gallon holding tanks. The second type of water
is lake water. Lake water switches run to both of the bathroom sinks, showers, commodes, dish
washer and washer. This water heater is an electric water heater that runs from the generator
and inverter batteries.
Reasons for no water:

E: AC/HEAT
The control unit for the central heat and air is located at the start of the hallway. The generator must
be on to use the central heat and air. At the bottom of the unit or under the flip cover for some models
are the controls for heat, fan, and AC. Slide the switch to the desired setting, then use the up and
down arrows to set the desired temperature. When you look at the display the large number you see
is the current room temperature and the small number at the top is the desired temperature. The unit
will not immediately come on. The unit has a delay from 2-15 minutes depending on different
conditions.
Reasons AC/Heat would not come on:

F: TV /DVD/SATELLITE
To operate the DVD, turn on the DVD and the TV. Turn the TV to HDMI 1 by pressing the input button on
your TV remote. To operate your satellite, turn on your TV and satellite receiver. Turn your TV to
Video 1.
Reasons the satellite/TV /DVD will not work:

G: REFRIGERATOR
The refrigerator is electric. This refrigerator will stay as cold as your home refrigerator. To keep the
refrigerator at its coldest you need to keep the door shut as much as possible. We provided two large
coolers to aid you on your trip. NOTE: NEVER JUMP-START THE BATTERIES! This will severely
damage the internal circuits of the refrigerator.
Reasons the refrigerator might not work:

H: STOVE/OVEN
The stove is all electric and auto light.
Reasons the stove/oven may not work:

I: TOILETS
There are two 130 gallon holding tanks for the toilets. There are two over flows on the boat and both
are located on the bathroom side of the boat. These over flow valves will disperse sewage if full. If
you are vacationing with us for a week come in after 3 or 4 days and let us pump your tanks.
NOTE: The toilet uses lake water to flush the toilets.
The holding tank holds the lake water along with sewage so you should figure in a half-gallon to a
gallon of water after long flushes. The toilets work by pushing the electric button located at the side
of the sink. It is not necessary to hold the button to flush. One time push is sufficient. This flushes into a
holding tank; nothing is pumped into the lake. NO FOREIGN OBJECTS of any kind is to be put into the
toilet. This includes paper, matches, gum, feminine products, etc. Toilet paper needs to be placed in
trash cans. If you stop up the toilet, call us, but to clean the toilet out we must dismantle it in the
bathroom. This is a big mess and will require a cleanup and could result in a service fee.
Reasons the toilet may not work properly:
J: MOTOR
Turn the blower on 2-4 minutes before starting the engine. This will clear the hull of any fumes. To
start the motor turn the key 1/4 of the turn press the transfer button you should see a flashing red
right on gear shifter advance the throttle forward A LITTLE this will advance fast idle turn the key on
over the engine should start. Now pull the throttle to the neutral position. The flashing light should
become solid. The solid light means the drive has been engaged so you are ready to go in forward or
reverse. To put the boat in forward, push the throttle forward. To put the boat in reverse pull the
hrottle back. To drive from the fly bridge make sure throttle is in neutral position on bottom drive go
to the top, follow same procedure as above directions.
K: LANDING & TIE-UP ON SHORE
Select a bank with moderate pitch with no overhanging brush or trees that could do damage to the
boat. Approach bank slowly with just enough throttle to overcome side wind drift, use reverse, as
needed. For a brake when contact is made with the bank the captain should remain at the wheel and
hold the boat straight with forward gear while crew members tie to trees. Two front ropes go straight
in -Two back ropes go approximate 45 angle. Pull ropes tight. Retighten when necessary. NEVER tie
up broad side. NEVER put boat in neutral or shut off motor until all four ropes are tied. Tie to bottom
of 3 in to 4 in (or more) live trees. When leaving a location hold boat against bank while getting back
ropes, then front ropes, aboard and stowed.
IMPORTANT: To avoid doing damage to prop and lower unit always back up two or more boat
lengths before turning away from bank.

L: HOT TUB
1. A 5-person Hot Tub is equipped on your boat. The hot tub will only run if the generator is running.
Please remember that when the generator is off, the water inside will cool and will take time to
heat back up. Also, leave the cover on the tub until you are ready to use. Absence of the cover
allows the water to cool as well as spill out while traveling.
2. While on the lake, rough water can cause the water inside the hot tub to spill out. The tub will not
operate if the water level is below the filter plateau. In the event your hot tub does not work due to
this you may visit any marina to have tub :topped off. You may contact our marina or purchase from
an alternate marina. Only then will it work properly. For any problems, first consult the
Troubleshooting guide and then call the marina if the problem persists.
3. IMPORTANT: The hot tub was drained and filled on the day you received your boat. It may not be
at high temperature when you receive your boat. Allow the tub to heat for a few hours before
calling the marina if you feel the hot tub is not working properly.
`The display shows the actual water temperature unless the pad is pressed. When the pad is
pressed, the display will show the set temperature. Pressing the pad a second time will cause the
set temperature to increase or decrease depending on what direction was last chosen. Each
successive press will change the set temperature in the same direction.
is selected, it will automatically turn off after 60 minutes of continuous operation. Whenever the
high-speed pump is selected, after 30 minutes of high-speed operation, the system will
automatically drop into the 60 minute low-speed “clean-up” cycle. Due to the Automatic Spa
Control, the low-speed pump will start automatically when the heater is turned off, during filter
cycles, or when a freeze condition is detected. If the low-speed pump is on with the heater or
during a freeze condition, it cannot be deactivated from the panel; however,
the high-speed pump may be started.
Spa Light: Press the “Light” pad to turn the spa light on and off. The spa light will turn off after four
hours.
Preset Filter Cycles: The spa will automatically filter itself twice each day. The first filter cycle will
begin one minute after the spa is energized. The second filter cycle will begin twelve hours later. Filter
duration is programmable at the topside panel. “F6” is the default filter time and indicates a 6-hour
cycle. Continue pressing the “Temp” pad to cycle through the rest of the filter time options;
“F3”= 3 hours “F9”= 9 hours, and “FC”= 24 hours.
Press the “Jets” pad again to exit programming. During filtration, the low-speed pump will run.
Whenever the “Jets” pad is pressed, the filter will be disabled for 30 minutes.
Overheat Protection: If the spa should overheat, the display will flash “OH.” In such conditions,
DO NOT ENTER THE WATER. Turn off all power to the spa and contact the marina. To reset the spa,
press any panel button.
Flow Switch Detection: If a pressure switch malfunctions, the display will show “FL.” Contact the
marina in such a case.
Open Sensor: If either the high-limit or water temperature sensor malfunctions, the display will show
“SN.” Contact the marina in such a case.
