RESORT REFERENCE GUIDE1. Your houseboat is designed for comfort, not speed. A reasonable cruising speed is3000-3500 RPM’s or about ¾ throttle. At this speed, you will use about 6-8 gallonsof gas per hour.Boat TypeEstimated MPHHouseboat 9-10 mph2. When under way, stay safe distances from the shore, especially when operating in a cove. This will insure deep-water operation and help provide protection against striking underwaterlogs, rocks or other obstacles that might damage the boat, motor or prop. Also, be aware ofoverhanging tree limbs, which might damage the boat, rails, antennas or canopy tops.REMEMBER- You are responsible for damage to the boat.3. Parts of the lake are marked as “NO WAKE” areas. This means you must operate the boat atidle speed only. Violation of No Wake areas could result in a citation from the Kentucky StateWater Patrol.4. Your boat steers from the rear, not the front like a vehicle. Steering the boat to the right turnsthe front to the right, as well as the rear to the left. Likewise, when you turn the steering wheelleft, the front turns left, and the rear turns right. When traveling from one point to another, keep a spot in the distance “eye-balled” and turn the wheel in small increments; avoiding oversteering and creating an :S: down the lake.5. Because the boat turns from the rear, always back out of areas where maneuvering isrestricted. DRIVE STRAIGHT IN, BACK STRAIGHT OUT. When backing out, remember to giveyourself at least TWO boat lengths before turning and moving forward.6. Our personnel will assist you when you would like to enter the harbor or when returning fromyour trip. When you are ready to return to the marina, either for supplies or at the end of yourjourney, call the marina on your marine band radio to receive instructions. Please remain in theNo Wake area and wait for a pilot to drive you into the harbor.7. If you have rented two or more boats, DO NOT drive with them tied together. If you wish to tietogether once you reach your destination, tie cleat to cleat. Never tie to the rails, as this couldcause damage to the rails, which you will be responsible for.8. When pulling a small boat with you, such as a runabout or fishing boat, DO NOT tie to the sideof the boat. Always pull your small boat at the rear of the houseboat, using at least a 30 ft.rope and tie to the rear cleat, not the rails.9. When under way, keep the swim ladder in the upright position.10. In the event you get caught in a storm or high winds, go to the nearest cove. If the wind isstrong, drive into the wind while you work your way to the cove.4

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDEC: ANCHORING1. All houseboats should be securely moored at least one hour before sunset.2. Your boat is equipped with two (2) 100 ft. mooring lines, of which you are responsible for theirreturn. Coves provide the best over night anchoring. They are a natural barrier from theweather and night traffic.3. Always tie to cleats, not the rails.4. We recommend looping your rope around a tree or other object twice before tying. This helpsmake the knot easier to untie. DO NOT cut the rope from the boat and leave it. You will beresponsible for lost rope.5. DO NOT ANCHOR IN THE MAIN CHANNEL. Night traffic can be heavy on the lake!6. When mooring, it is best to take refuge in a secluded cove. Take the bow of the boat close toshore and secure front mooring line to a solid object, such as a tree. Then, making sure thereare no individuals or objects behind you, back the boat from the front shore and secure the rearmooring line to the opposite bank. This method works when you have a small boat or would liketo swim to the opposite bank and tie off. When a small boat is unavailable, find a shallow bankto pull forward on. Take both mooring lines and secure to the front or rear cleats on oppositesides. Then take the lines and secure forward to solid objects.7. Lake Cumberland Fluctuates daily, so check your boat daily for possible dry-docking.D: EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTION1. We feel that we offer the finest in service and maintenance possible. Inevitably, problems doarise. Therefore, should you experience any difficulty, we ask for your understanding in theknowledge that our staff will do everything possible to correct the problem with the leastamount of inconvenience or interruption possible on your trip.2. If a problem should arise, first consult the troubleshooting section of this book before calling themarina. If you cannot correct the problem yourself, call the marina. You can first call on themarine band radio (78). If you are out of range, you can reach the Ship Store @ 606-561-4223.A service boat will be dispatched as soon as possible. If the problem occurs after dark, we askyour patience until morning. Service boats are not dispatched on the lake after dark. We willdo our best to have you up and running as quickly as possible.3. The most common difficulty is a flooded motor, which usually leads to a dead battery. If themotor is flooded, wait 5 minutes before trying to start the motor again5

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDEE: SAFETY TIPS1. The captain is responsible for all members of the crew, as well as the boat. Please do not lethorseplay or drinking get out of hand. Diving off the top of the houseboat should bediscouraged, as well as diving near the shore. All persons should wear some type of CoastGuard approved personal floatation device when in the water. We also recommend that allchildren and non-swimmers wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket at all times, not only onthe boat, but also anywhere around the water, which includes the marina docks.2. Climb up and down the ladder with chest facing the ladder. Be aware the ladder may be slickfrom water and suntan oils.3. NEVER go outside the top deck railing at anytime. This includes the front platform over thelower deck. The area beyond the fly bridge tends to be very slippery. Sitting outside the railsis not permitted.4. Make sure everyone is out of the water before starting your motor. ALWAYS TAKE A HEADCOUNT BEFORE STARTING THE MOTOR.5. Fireworks are NOT permitted on the houseboat.F: SAFETY EQUIPMENT1. Your houseboat is equipped with 12 Coast Guard approved life jackets. These are not forswimming, but for emergencies. Your boat is equipped with adult size life jackets; however,we will be happy to exchange any of these for a child’s size as needed. LIFE JACKETS ARE NOTTO BE USED AS BOAT BUMPERS!!!2. Your boat is equipped with 3 fire extinguishers. Be familiar with their location and operation.3. The horn can be used to warn other boats of your presence. When backing up, sound thehorn twice.G: WATER SLIDE1. Turn engine and generator off before using the slide!2. Life jacket must be worn when using the slide.3. Before using the slide, pour a bucket of water down the slide or turn the slide pump on for easeof sliding.4. NEVER use the slide in shallow water, or within 20 ft. of shore.5. Adult supervision is necessary when children are using the slide.6

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDEH: MARINE BAND RADIO1. Your houseboat is equipped with a marine band radio. Burnside Marina monitorschannel 78.NOTE: If you are out of range of Burnside Marina, you may contact another marina to relay amessage. See Section III for a list of channels for other Marinas.2. Channel 16 is an emergency channel. Use an alternate channel besides 16 and 78 for privateconversations.3. To make a call on the Marine Band Radio:a. Push in firmly on the “push to talk” button on the side of the hand microphone to transmit.b. To call Beaver Creek, state “The boat type and number calling Burnside Marina”c. Release the button to hear a reply. You CANNOT hear a reply unless the “push to talk”button is released.d. Refer to Fig. 1 for radio specifications.4. Low power is used in the harbor only. High power is used outside the harbor. Make sure thehigh power button is on once you leave the harbor.5. The red light indicates “push to talk” button is depressed.6. Do not pull on microphone cord while transmitting.7. If travel is more than 5 miles, you may experience interference using the marine radio.8. Channel 1 is a 24-hour weather channel.Fig. 1: Controls and Indicators1. UP/DWN Channel Selectors-- These controls are used to select the desired communicationchannel2. Activate the blower motor 3-4 minutes by turning the toggle switch (labeled “Blower”)on the dash.2. Your boat is equipped with two engines, one for the starboard side and one for the port side. When starting the engines you must start one engine at a time.3. First, make sure the MMC controls are in the neutral position. Start the starboard side enginefirst; turn the key to the “ON” position. When you get the beeping, simultaneously push thecontrol switch while moving the starboard throttle forward. This should give you a blinkinglight, which indicates that the engine is in start up mode and that is throttle only. Pump thethrottle lever twice, then return the lever to just a ¼ position.4. Turn the key over, just like you would to start your vehicle, watch the tachometer. Sometimesthe engines are hard to hear running and by watching the tachometer will let you know whenthe engine has started.5. Once the engine has started, let it warm about 5 minutes at 1500 RPM’s.6. To start the port side engine, follow the same procedure as the starboard, instruction #3-5.7. Then return control levers to center position, where the blinking light changes to solid. A solidlight means the engine is ready to be put into gear.8. To go forward, simply move the MMC control lever to the forward position. The lever acts as ashift lever and throttle control, all in one. The further forward the lever is pushed, the fasterthe boat will go.9. To operate from the fly bridge, bring the boat to a complete stop. The MMC levers shouldbe in the neutral position. Go to the fly bridge and press the transfer button. When thered light is illuminated on the MMC control, you will have control on the bridge. Do thesame procedure for transferring back to the helm. Please do not operate your boat fromthe fly bridge inside the harbor.10. IMPORTANT!! In the event you experience any warning signals, such as a beeping orbuzzing, TURN THE ENGINE OFF and contact the marina immediately for instructions.9

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDEB: GENERATOR1. The generator must be on for the following equipment to work: boat.the generator is off.C: CO DETECTORS10

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDED: HOT TUB1. A 5-person Hot Tub is equipped on your boat. The hot tub will only run if the generator isrunning. Please remember that when the generator is off, the water inside will cool and willtake time to heat back up. Also, leave the cover on the tub until you are ready to use. Absenceof the cover allows the water to cool as well as spill out while traveling.2. While on the lake, rough water can cause the water inside the hot tub to spill out. The tub willnot operate if the water level is below the filter plateau. In the event that your hot tub does notwork due to this, you must utilize the bucket supplied in the back closet of the boat and fill thetub up with lake water or you may visit any marina to have the tub “topped off.” Additionalchemicals MUST be added if water is topped off. You may contact our marina or purchase froman alternate marina. Only then will it work properly. For any problems, first consult theTroubleshooting guide and then call the marina if the problem persists.3. IMPORTANT: The hot tub was drained and filled on the day you received your boat. It may notbe at high temperature when you receive your boat. Allow the tub to heat for a few hoursbefore calling the marina if you feel the hot tub is not working properly.CAUTIONHOT TUBS HAVE STYROFOAM INSERTS;A $200.00 CHARGE TO CUSTOMER IF BROKEN!!!!4. The hot tub comes preset at around 100-104 degrees. The starting procedure is verysimple. First, lift the lid. Turn the tank supply valve counter-clockwise. Light a match, placingthe flame under vent area. Turn gas supply control on, about a ½ turn. Your grill is equippedwith a safety feature, which goes to shut off mode if turned more that a ½ turn. Remember toturn burners and tank supply off when not using the grill.DO NOT USE CHARCOAL IN THE GRILL!!F: SPECIFICATIONS1. The fuel capacity is 103 gallons per tank.2. Fresh water capacity is 370 gallons.12

RESORT REFERENCE GUIDEG: APPLIANCE OPERATION1. Stove operation is the same as the unit in your home. The generator must be running for thestove to operate.2. The refrigerator is turned on with a switch located inside the unit itself. For maximumefficiency, the unit should not be overstocked. Utilize the coolers on the front deck for suchitems as milk, cola, other drinks, etc.3. The coffee pot is used like any normal drip coffee maker.4. The hot water heater does not require any assistance from the crew. The generator must beon for the hot water heater to operate.5. AC/Heat requires the generator to be running. Adjust the thermostat located in the hallway. When outside temperatures reach 90+ degrees, cooling the boat becomes very difficult withconstant in and out traffic.H: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM1. Batteries- When the generator has been turned off, the following equipment will operate: be in the “ON” position. 3. Head (Toilet)- The marine head and environmental protection system is a flow-through typemarine sanitation system. The system meets all the requirements set forth by the U.S.Coast Guard and the EPA for type 1 MSD devices. A flush handle accomplishes operation ofthe system. Push as needed. The water that flows through the toilet comes from the lake, nothead. If the head becomes clogged, it will require a service call. 4. AM/FM Radio- Although very little electric current is consumed by the radio, wediscourage constant use due to drainage on the batteries.13
