Tagore Film Festival - (1 – 5 September 2011)<br />

A 5-day long Tagore Film festival organized by the <strong>India</strong>n Cultural<br />

Centre, <strong>Colombo</strong> focusing on works <strong>of</strong> Gurudev Tagore was<br />

inaugurated on 1st September at the National Film Corporation Hall<br />

by Senior Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama in presence <strong>of</strong> <strong>High</strong><br />

<strong>Commission</strong>er <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong> H.E. Mr. Ashok K. Kantha. The films screened<br />

in this festival were Pathar Panchali, Ghare Baire, Agantuk and<br />

Charulata directed by Satyajit Ray and Chokher Bhali directed by<br />

Rituparno Ghosh.<br />

Kanya – A combination <strong>of</strong> Sri Lankan and <strong>India</strong>n classical<br />

and fusion dance 14 October 2011<br />

The <strong>India</strong>n Cultural Centre, <strong>Colombo</strong><br />

organized an evening <strong>of</strong> dance titled<br />

“Kanya”, a combination <strong>of</strong> Sri Lankan and<br />

<strong>India</strong> classical and fusion dance by<br />

Chandana Wickramasinghe at the Centre.<br />

Kanya was a tribute to Rabindranath<br />

Tagore, in whose institution Chandana<br />

perfected his art <strong>of</strong> dancing.<br />

The restaging <strong>of</strong> “Shaap Mochan” - 22- 28 November 2011<br />

& Bimbavati Devi combining the dance<br />

forms <strong>of</strong> Manipuri and Kathak. Hon. U.G.D<br />

Ariyathilake, Minister <strong>of</strong> Sports & Youth<br />

Affairs in the Southern Provincial<br />

Government was the Chief Guest.<br />

25 November 2011 - Kandy<br />

22 November 2011 - <strong>Colombo</strong><br />

‘ Shaap Mochan ’, re-titled as ‘ Prabhu Amar Priyo Amar ’ was<br />

performed in <strong>Colombo</strong> as part <strong>of</strong> the 150th Birth Anniversary<br />

Celebrations <strong>of</strong> Rabindranath Tagore. Hon. Nimal Siripala De Silva,<br />

Minister <strong>of</strong> Irrigation and Water Resources Management lit the<br />

ceremonial lamp as the Chief Guest on the occasion <strong>of</strong> restaging the<br />

dance drama at the Bishops College Auditorium.<br />

23 November 2011 – Galle<br />

Shaap Mochan, the dance drama was performed at Galle by the<br />

visiting ICCR sponsored troupe led by Ashimbandhu Bhattacharjee<br />

In Kandy, the performance <strong>of</strong> Prabhu<br />

Amar Priyo Amar was held at Hindu<br />

Cultural Hall, Kandy. Mr. Tikiri<br />

Kobbekaduwa, Governor <strong>of</strong> Central<br />

Province was the Chief Guest.<br />

28 November 2011 - Jaffna<br />

In Jaffna, the performance was held at<br />

Veerasingham Hall, Jaffna. Major<br />

General G.A Chandrasiri, Governor <strong>of</strong><br />

Northern Province was the Chief Guest.<br />
