Postgraduate Courses in Industrial Psychology offered: •• BComHons (Industrial Psychology) •• MCom/MPhil (Industrial Psychology) •• PhD (Industrial Psychology) MCom / MPhil (INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY) NQF LEVEL: 8 NQF FIELD: 03/07 NUMBER OF CREDITS: 240 Purpose The aim of the qualification is to develop the applied competence of the learner on an advanced level in mastering analysis, interpretation and understanding of industrial psychological principles and methods. It puts the learner in a position to register as an Industrial Psychologist (with the South African Professional Board of Psychology) to work on an advanced level in the fields of Human Resource Management and Industrial Psychology. It will prepare the learner for further PhD study in Industrial Psychology on NQF level 8. Rules of access A potential learner should possess: •• an honours qualification in Industrial Psychology on NQF level 7 and have studied statistical methods or analytical techniques at undergraduate NQF level 6 and have passed a module in research methodology at honours NQF level 7. •• Where applicable: Related experience which is considered relevant and sufficient by the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management will also be assessed.
Curriculum •• Theoretical Foundations of Industrial and Organisational Psychology •• Industrial and Organisational Psychology Practice •• Research •• A publishable article in an accredited journal based on a approved research project PhD (INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY) NQF LEVEL: 8 NQF FIELD: 03, 07 NUMBER OF CREDITS: 360 Purpose This qualification develops the intellectual and professional skills of the learner. A relevant, problem-based, unique, original and executable topic on an advanced academic level within this discipline should be researched independently and reported on scientifically, in the form of a doctoral thesis. The thesis would constitute a decided contribution to knowledge of and insight into the subject discipline as well as the field of research. Qualifying learners would also display competence in the application of related research methodology, and the proper written and/or oral communication of the research process and findings. The qualification can also occur via a combination of independent research and developmental scientific work of original nature on such an advanced topic. This programme will prepare learners to reflect on their own economical applications to assess the effect thereof in the holistic context of Industrial Psychology within their everyday lives. Rules of access A potential learner should possess: •• An MCom/MPhil qualification in Industrial Psychology on NQF level 8 and have studied statistical methods or analytical techniques undergraduate NQF level 6 and have passed a course in research methodology at honours NQF level 7. •• Where aplicable: Related experience which is considered relevant and sufficient by the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management will also be assessed, subject to approval of the Faculty Board. Curriculum A thesis on an approved topic. Closing date for postgraduate applications 30 September annually for study in the following year.
