Introduction
Croatia may be a small country,
but it has a remarkably vibrant film
industry, with exceptional local
talent and production companies
that have an impressive record
in domestic and international
production.
With the 20% cash rebate introduced in 2012, skilled professionals
and production costs among the lowest in Europe, Croatia is
making its way back on Europe’s filmmaking map.
These factors, in combination with spectacular locations and the
country’s proximity to some of Europe’s largest filmmaking centers
such as Vienna, Budapest, Munich and Prague have led to a
steady rise in the international production of commercials, television
serials and major international feature films in Croatia.
The year 2008 was a turning point, both for Croatian filmmakers
and for international production companies filming in Croatia. In
the summer of 2007, the Croatian Parliament passed a new Film
Act, underlying its commitment to boosting the creative industries
in the country.
