RESOLUTION BY ICCAT ON FISHING<br />

BLUEFIN TUNA IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN<br />

ACKNOWLEDGING continuing concern about the possible adverse effect of a large shift of fishing ef<strong>for</strong>t in<br />

the Atlantic on future bluefin tuna conservation programs,<br />

NOTING the SCRS’ concern about issues of mixing identified in previous SCRS documents,<br />

NOTING there is strong evidence of mixing in the entire Atlantic, including Central area,<br />

THE INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION FOR THE CONSERVATION<br />

OF ATLANTIC TUNAS (ICCAT) RESOLVES THAT:<br />

1. Contracting Parties, Cooperating non-Contracting Parties, Entities or Fishing Entities (CPCs) should not<br />

increase their catch by large-scale tuna longline vessels from the 1999/2000 level in the area north of 10ºN,<br />

and between 30ºW and 45ºW.<br />
