5. ICCAT inter-sessional meetings and working groups<br />
In accordance with Commission decisions on this subject, the following meetings were held in <strong>2006</strong>:<br />
– Workshops on Stock Structure of Swordfish (Heraklion, Crete, Greece, March 13 to 15, <strong>2006</strong>).<br />
– 4th Meeting of the Working Group to Develop Integrated and Coordinated Atlantic Bluefin Tuna<br />

In <strong>2006</strong>, the Commission Chairman announced various Regional Workshops <strong>for</strong> the ICCAT members. In<br />
ICCAT Circular # 451/06, the Chairman explained that the objective of these Workshops was <strong>for</strong> Contracting<br />
Parties to share their opinions and points of view concerning any important matter related to ICCAT, as well as<br />
the Commission’s priorities <strong>for</strong> <strong>2006</strong>-20<strong>07</strong> and later years. The Chairman sent €65,122 to cover the expenses <strong>for</strong><br />
the organization of the Workshops and travel expenses of representatives of developing Contracting Parties, as<br />
well as the travel costs of the Secretariat.<br />
– Workshop 1: North Africa/Northern Mediterranean (Agadir, Morocco, April 13 & 14, <strong>2006</strong>). Participants:<br />
Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.<br />
– Workshop 2, Caribbean and Latin America (San Pedro, Belize, July 11 & 12, <strong>2006</strong>). Participants: Belize,<br />
Brazil, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay and CARICOM.<br />
– Workshop 3, West and Southern Africa (Accra, Ghana, September 13 & 14, <strong>2006</strong>). Participants: Angola,<br />
Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Republic of Guinea, Namibia, Senegal and St. Tome and Principe.<br />
– Workshop 4. Distant Water Interests (Tokyo, Japan, September 19 & 20, <strong>2006</strong>). Participants: Japan,<br />
Korean and Chinese Taipei.<br />
– Workshop 5. North Atlantic (Brussels, Belgium, October 25, <strong>2006</strong>). Participants: Canada, EC, France (St.<br />
Pierre & Miquelon), Norway, and the United States.<br />
6. Meetings at which ICCAT was represented<br />
In the framework of ICCAT’s mission, which consists of assessing the measures adopted by the Commission,<br />
within international organizations, the Secretariat participated in several meetings and technical consultative<br />
processes, which include regional fishery bodies (see Appendix 1, which summarizes the main topics that were<br />
discussed at these meetings).<br />
