What is Ethafoam ®
Whisper Foam?
Ethafoam ® Whisper foam is a closed
cell polyethylene foam manufactured
from hydrophobic polyolefin resins.
These two features make the material
inherently impervious to water
absorption. The composition, structure
and design flexibility makes it a superior
material for sound absorption and
sound management.
Triple Level Noise Absorption
Ethafoam ® Whisper foam is effective
because it absorbs and dissipates
sound energy in three different ways:
• Initial Dissipation
Sound energy is lost as soon as it
hits the foam membrane
• Perforation
Engineered perforations in
Ethafoam ® Whisper foam allows
for viscous energy loss
• Cavity Absorption
Air cavities effectively trap sound
vibrations inside the cell walls
Unique Foam Properties
Ethafoam ® Whisper foam is resistant
to water, humidity and most chemicals,
allowing it to maintain mechanical
strength in humid environments without
additional films. It also contains flame
retardant additives to meet fire test
response characteristics.
Where It Makes a Difference
Ethafoam ® Whisper foam can be
used in a variety of commercial and
industrial applications. The superior
noise reduction qualities stand up to
the most rigorous applications, such
as road and rail traffic, and industrial
machinery. The low frequency sound
absorption is ideal for marine and
transportation components as well
as acoustical panels.
The Ethafoam ® Whisper foam was tested by Intertek, Cortland, NY,
in accordance with ASTM C 423-09a “Standard Test Method for
Sound Absorption and Sound Absorption Coefficients by the
Reverberation Room Method”*.
