Location: South Darfur<br />
Title: Health & Nutrition Advisor- Nyala- Northern Sudan<br />
To provide strategic direction and advice on the health and nutrition program<br />
sector, liaise with the Sudanese government and with NGOs to ensure that the<br />
<strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> health and nutrition programs in Northern Sudan particularly South<br />
Darfur (but also other states where <strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> operates) meet the needs of<br />
the emergency affected and other populations efficiently and adequately<br />
Purpose of the <strong>Job</strong> :<br />
To provide strategic direction and advice on the health and nutrition program<br />
sector, liaise with the Sudanese government and with NGOs to ensure that the<br />
<strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> health and nutrition programs in Northern Sudan particularly South<br />
Darfur (but also other states where <strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> operates) meet the needs of<br />
the emergency affected and other populations efficiently and adequately<br />
Major Responsibility<br />
Design, implement and coordinate health/nutrition programs and budget<br />
particularly for the Northern, Central and Southern Areas of South Darfur<br />
Coordinate with program officers, are coordinators and other area-based staff<br />
to ensure a multi-sectoral program approach.<br />
Work with area staff to establish and maintain <strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> and other best<br />
practice standards for health/nutrition program.<br />
Conduct health/nutrition program needs assessments and surveys in coordination<br />
with other sectors and in each area-based program.<br />
Investigate potential project area with the area-based program staff and<br />
recommend appropriate interventions.<br />
Conduct health/nutrition program impact evaluation as necessary in coordination<br />
with the monitoring and evaluation unit.<br />
Prepare and review technical reports, project proposals and monthly reports.<br />
Organize/participate in relevant missions to review progress of area<br />
programmes/project implementation and recommend appropriate substantive and<br />
administrative follow-up actions.<br />
Promote local capacities for peace by periodic analysis of program impact on<br />
and potential for conflict between beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries and with<br />
area-based staff adjust program accordingly.<br />
Work closely with the Program Manager, Program Officer, Water and Sanitation<br />
team, Agricultural Natural Resources Management team, Area-based staff and the<br />
Food Programming Management team to ensure appropriateness, timelines and<br />
coordination of programming.<br />
Advisory Services.<br />
Advise Program Manager and Area based staff (particularly health and nutrition<br />
team leaders) on health/nutrition issues.<br />
Establish and maintain a health/nutrition technical advisory, information, and<br />
research system.<br />
Integrate health/nutrition programs activities with existing sectoral area<br />
programs to ensure the effective delivery and full capacity of WV Northern

Sudan multi-sectoral area activities for a more desired impact on the affected<br />
population.<br />
Representation<br />
Represent <strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> health programs to donors, UN, other partner agencies<br />
and government officials.<br />
Conduct briefings and debriefings on program/projects<br />
Financial Management<br />
Proposal writing for programme funding in collaboration with are staff<br />
Oversee budget preparation and on-going budget management in coordination with<br />
area staff<br />
Establish/maintain financial procedures and recording mechanisms.<br />
Assure strict budget management and adherence to activity timelines to ensure<br />
proper accountability and conformity to donors requirements and effective<br />
project implementation.<br />
Ensure all health/nutrition projects meet necessary funding requirements and<br />
requirements at the programme area.<br />
Documentation and Reporting<br />
Submit progress reports on time and make recommendations based on findings.<br />
Compile reports indicating progress against objectives, issues and concerns for<br />
WV and donors.<br />
Human Resource Management.<br />
Identify, recruit and manage staff in cooperation with the HR manager and Area<br />
supervisory staff as necessary<br />
Supervise the implementation of health and nutrition programs including<br />
recruitment of expatriate and national staff in collaboration with area-based<br />
management staff, management, training, monitoring; and reporting.<br />
Provide technical advise in catering to the health needs of international and<br />
national staff, and ensure that a medical evacuation plan is in place for<br />
international staff.<br />
Spiritual Leadership.<br />
Mentor staff to develop spiritual gifts and grow in Christian maturity.<br />
Attend and participate in spiritual nurture meetings/devotions as scheduled<br />
REQUIRED:<br />
A Masters Degree in Public Health from a recognized university,<br />
Professional Training in Medical, Nursing, Nutrition or related Public Heath<br />
Field with several with more than 5 years of post qualification experience.<br />
5years experience in health care program management and nutrition experience,<br />
with at least three years experience working in relief health care particularly<br />
in a country with conflicts and disasters.<br />
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills<br />
Strong capacity building and facilitation skills.<br />
Strong skills in advocacy.<br />
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)<br />
Knowledge of MS Office, Lotus Notes and statistical program (e.g. Epi Info,<br />
SPSS)<br />
Good understanding of <strong>World</strong> <strong>Vision</strong> and Sphere relief standards.<br />
Knowledge of and adherence to the Red Cross and NGOs Code of Conduct.<br />
Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible worldview, emotional maturity and physical<br />
stamina.<br />
Ability to work and contribute to team building environment.<br />
Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts,<br />
psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with
