Job Description
Location: South Darfur
Title: Health & Nutrition Advisor- Nyala- Northern Sudan
To provide strategic direction and advice on the health and nutrition program
sector, liaise with the Sudanese government and with NGOs to ensure that the
World Vision health and nutrition programs in Northern Sudan particularly South
Darfur (but also other states where World Vision operates) meet the needs of
the emergency affected and other populations efficiently and adequately
Purpose of the Job :
To provide strategic direction and advice on the health and nutrition program
sector, liaise with the Sudanese government and with NGOs to ensure that the
World Vision health and nutrition programs in Northern Sudan particularly South
Darfur (but also other states where World Vision operates) meet the needs of
the emergency affected and other populations efficiently and adequately
Major Responsibility
Design, implement and coordinate health/nutrition programs and budget
particularly for the Northern, Central and Southern Areas of South Darfur
Coordinate with program officers, are coordinators and other area-based staff
to ensure a multi-sectoral program approach.
Work with area staff to establish and maintain World Vision and other best
practice standards for health/nutrition program.
Conduct health/nutrition program needs assessments and surveys in coordination
with other sectors and in each area-based program.
Investigate potential project area with the area-based program staff and
recommend appropriate interventions.
Conduct health/nutrition program impact evaluation as necessary in coordination
with the monitoring and evaluation unit.
Prepare and review technical reports, project proposals and monthly reports.
Organize/participate in relevant missions to review progress of area
programmes/project implementation and recommend appropriate substantive and
administrative follow-up actions.
Promote local capacities for peace by periodic analysis of program impact on
and potential for conflict between beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries and with
area-based staff adjust program accordingly.
Work closely with the Program Manager, Program Officer, Water and Sanitation
team, Agricultural Natural Resources Management team, Area-based staff and the
Food Programming Management team to ensure appropriateness, timelines and
coordination of programming.
Advisory Services.
Advise Program Manager and Area based staff (particularly health and nutrition
team leaders) on health/nutrition issues.
Establish and maintain a health/nutrition technical advisory, information, and
research system.
Integrate health/nutrition programs activities with existing sectoral area
programs to ensure the effective delivery and full capacity of WV Northern

Sudan multi-sectoral area activities for a more desired impact on the affected
population.
Representation
Represent World Vision health programs to donors, UN, other partner agencies
and government officials.
Conduct briefings and debriefings on program/projects
Financial Management
Proposal writing for programme funding in collaboration with are staff
Oversee budget preparation and on-going budget management in coordination with
area staff
Establish/maintain financial procedures and recording mechanisms.
Assure strict budget management and adherence to activity timelines to ensure
proper accountability and conformity to donors requirements and effective
project implementation.
Ensure all health/nutrition projects meet necessary funding requirements and
requirements at the programme area.
Documentation and Reporting
Submit progress reports on time and make recommendations based on findings.
Compile reports indicating progress against objectives, issues and concerns for
WV and donors.
Human Resource Management.
Identify, recruit and manage staff in cooperation with the HR manager and Area
supervisory staff as necessary
Supervise the implementation of health and nutrition programs including
recruitment of expatriate and national staff in collaboration with area-based
management staff, management, training, monitoring; and reporting.
Provide technical advise in catering to the health needs of international and
national staff, and ensure that a medical evacuation plan is in place for
international staff.
Spiritual Leadership.
Mentor staff to develop spiritual gifts and grow in Christian maturity.
Attend and participate in spiritual nurture meetings/devotions as scheduled
REQUIRED:
A Masters Degree in Public Health from a recognized university,
Professional Training in Medical, Nursing, Nutrition or related Public Heath
Field with several with more than 5 years of post qualification experience.
5years experience in health care program management and nutrition experience,
with at least three years experience working in relief health care particularly
in a country with conflicts and disasters.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills
Strong capacity building and facilitation skills.
Strong skills in advocacy.
Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
Knowledge of MS Office, Lotus Notes and statistical program (e.g. Epi Info,
SPSS)
Good understanding of World Vision and Sphere relief standards.
Knowledge of and adherence to the Red Cross and NGOs Code of Conduct.
Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible worldview, emotional maturity and physical
stamina.
Ability to work and contribute to team building environment.
Ability to maintain performance expectations in diverse cultural contexts,
psychologically stressful environments and physical hardship conditions with
